Ecocarat - From Japanese tradition comes a breathing ceramic

The ancient building technique of naturally regulating humidity and eliminating odours with straw and mud walls was the inspiration behind the Ecocarat range of ceramic bio-architecture products. Made by INAX and distributed by ARMA Architectural Materials, Ecocarat is primarily made of extremely light, highly micro-porous clay combined with Japanese volcanic ash. When installed on walls or ceilings, it works through atmospheric pressure bringing humidity, odours, pollutants and toxic materials in contact with it. Ecocarat then filters the air, trapping excess humidity and releasing it as needed to maintain room humidity of between 40 and 70 per cent. This eliminates both mould and the spread of mites. Airborne odours and volatile organic compounds are trapped through differences in atomic charge and are filtered and eliminated.
Ecocarat is available in a range of sizes and natural colours, including the 1 1/4 x 1 1/4” (3x3 cm) Mosaic, the 2 x 7 7/8” (5x20 cm) Brick, and the 11 7/8 x 11 7/8” (30x30 cm), 11 7/8 x 17 3/4” (30x45 cm) and 17 3/4 x 17 3/4” (45X45 cm) sizes. Ecocarat does not require maintenance, it can be used on interior walls and ceilings, and its characteristics do not diminish over time. Fully recyclable, Ecocarat has also received BCJ-AIBT certification from the Building Center of Japan as the first building material capable of reducing the concentration of airborne formaldehyde and toluene, regardless of external factors, such as temperature and humidity.
