Goop's New Boutique in Northern California
By Editorial Staff -

Goop’s latest boutique in Larkspur, Northern California, is a tangible embodiment of Gwyneth Paltrow’s vision of elegance and modernity for her brand. Designed by Orange County-based studio viaClover, the space seamlessly weaves together French sophistication, New York charm, and California’s laid-back spirit. Situated in Marin Country Marta reimagined 1975 development styled as a New England maritime village—the boutique draws from its eclectic surroundings, rich with natural beauty and history.Goop Boutique a Larkspur - Gwyneth Paltrow con viaClover Yoshihiro Makino, courtesy of viaClover

This sixth Goop boutique distinguishes itself with an in-store treatment room, a first for the brand, reinforcing its holistic approach to wellness. With 1,200 square feet to play with, viaClover crafted a series of intimate yet connected spaces that encourage exploration while maintaining a sense of familiarity and warmth.

Gwyneth Paltrow envisioned a space blending the charm of pre-war New York apartments with the elegance of vintage French cafés. This vision comes to life through thoughtful design details: wood trims, moldings, and the rattan-backed shelving unit paired with wood floors evoke a classic New York aesthetic.Goop Boutique a Larkspur - Gwyneth Paltrow con viaClover Yoshihiro Makino, courtesy of viaClover

Meanwhile, elements like the subway tile wall, travertine and patinated counters, floor tiles, walnut-paneled doors, and custom lighting draw inspiration from traditional French kitchens and bistros. To enhance the sense of timeless sophistication, off-white onyx was incorporated alongside travertine and patinated metal, adding a touch of industrial edge to the overall design.Goop Boutique a Larkspur - Gwyneth Paltrow con viaClover Yoshihiro Makino, courtesy of viaClover

The one storey boutique features a ceiling that fluctuates in heights, with varying heights, a characteristic that the viaClover team embraced by creating volume and adding skylights as well as both drop down and elevation moments.Goop Boutique a Larkspur - Gwyneth Paltrow con viaClover Yoshihiro Makino, courtesy of viaClover

The boutique’s layout radiates into four sections branching off of the main entrance. At the centre, the beauty section is intentionally designed to anchor the visitor’s experience while reflecting Goop’s calming and familiar ethos. Rounded design elements, including lobby tables and arched doorways, soften the space, creating an inviting, approachable atmosphere.

A color palette rooted in the surrounding landscape

The boutique’s colour and material palette draws inspiration from its Northern California surroundings, featuring soft browns, muted plums, and off-whites. White oak and rattan shelving units echo the natural textures of Marin County’s iconic Redwood forests, while off-white onyx and travertine introduce an element of timeless sophistication. This thoughtful balance between regional authenticity and cosmopolitan elegance defines the store’s character.Goop Boutique a Larkspur - Gwyneth Paltrow con viaClover Yoshihiro Makino, courtesy of viaClover

“I aimed to maintain a warm 70s vibe, reflecting Marin’s history and my memories of family/friends visits up north, where spaces were filled with ferns and wood,” says Gresham Taylor, viaClover co-founder. “Despite the East Coast/French brief, I also wanted to honour the Bay Area's authenticity and keep the design connected to the local Northwestern surroundings.”

viaClover and Gnyneth Paltrow, a Collaborative Effort

The partnership between viaClover and Paltrow was built on a shared commitment to simplicity and authenticity. “We wanted the space to feel shop-able, approachable, and reflective of its location,” says Taylor. Over seven months, the design team translated Goop’s ethos into a physical space that resonates with its Northern California roots while maintaining a cosmopolitan edge.

In this Larkspur boutique, Goop has crafted more than a retail space—it’s a place where design, wellness, and cultural inspiration converge, creating an experience as dynamic and layered as the region itself.
