Imagine combining the lavishness of baroque elements with the boldness of contemporary design in a single space. The result is a luxurious apartment designed by Olimpiada Arefieva, founder of Well Done Interiors. This house, inspired by New York lofts and situated in the heart of Moscow, embodies a perfect harmony between opulence and modern style.
The project invites you to immerse yourself in a luxurious symphony of pink, burgundy, sepia, blue, green, and dark grey, evoking a compelling aura of drama and boldness.
The primary inspiration for this apartment facing the Moskva River was the industrial architecture of the late 19th century and the aesthetic of New York lofts. The building itself stands out due to its original design, featuring a noticeable incline on two of its four facades. This peculiarity gives the apartment walls a slant towards the centre of the rooms, creating a unique visual impact.
The designer was particularly impressed by the 5m high ceilings, an uncommon feature for a city apartments. The floor-to-ceiling windows and a wood-burning fireplace add complexity to the design and bestow the spaces with a distinctive character.
Initially, the apartment spanned 200 sq. m on a single level but was expanded with the addition of a mezzanine, bringing the total area to 255 sq. m.
The apartment was commissioned by a couple of professionals, passionate about art and literature, who wanted to create a pied-à-terre that reflected their personality and refined taste. The goal was to create an artistic space with deep colours and soft lighting, ideal for reading a book and unwinding after a busy day.
The designer capitalised on the high ceilings to incorporate baroque-inspired details, such as coffered ceilings painted in bold colours. Each room was designed with bold fabric combinations, using simple backgrounds like painted walls and natural wood floors.
The walls of the living room and kitchen are painted in warm grey, blending harmoniously with the burgundy ceiling. The master bedroom features a bluish-green colour paired with a terracotta ceiling, while the entrance is dominated by a dark blue, perfectly complementing an Italian designer chandelier.
In the daughter's room, Arefieva combined pearly pink walls with a mustard yellow ceiling, playing with textures and shades to create an elegant and sophisticated contrast that further enriches the interiors.
