Funded as part of the Abruzzo regional government’s Bike to Coast plan, Giulianova’s cycle and pedestrian path aims to promote sustainable travel and local tourism. The two-way path was designed by the Area 77 architecture and engineering studio and covers a total area of approximately 3,000 sq. m. The central section of the Giulianova seafront, known as the Lungomare Monumentale, is characterized by exedras and travertine columns. Recent works have created not only a new pedestrian area, but also a cycle path in an area decorated with trees, flower beds and other street furniture.
For its construction, Mapei Technical Assistance was called in and, drawing on its extensive experience, it was able to identify the most suitable solution: Mapecoat TNS Urban, a multi-layer system specifically designed for cycle paths and urban furniture areas. Based on acrylic resins that are highly resistant to abrasion, ultraviolet rays and climatic conditions, Mapecoat TNS Urban can be applied both on old pavements that have already been painted and on new cementitious or asphalt pavements, allowing surfaces to be coated while protecting the substrate from deterioration. These coatings – non-slip and resistant to oils, fuels and de-icing salts – not only look great, but are easy to maintain and renew. Specifically for the Giulianova cycle path, the product was applied in the chosen color in two coats, 12 to 24 hours apart. In contrast, Mapecoat TNS Extreme, a colored two-component rapid-drying epoxy-acrylic finish in water dispersion was used for the marked crossing sections.
