The Architects of Tomorrow Special Contest is promoted by THE PLAN as part of THE PLAN AWARD. The subject of the contest is theses for three and five-year bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in in architecture, building engineering/architecture and industrial design.
Theses from bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in architecture, building engineering/architecture and industrial design defended after 1 January 2019 can be submitted. Submissions can be presented individually or as groups.
The Architects of Tomorrow Special Contest shall accept submissions of theses projects in the following subjects:

Architectural design
Urban planning
Infrastructure design
Technology, materials innovation and sustainability

Landscape design Industrial and interior design
Enrolment for the Contest opens on 15 January 2021. Period for enrolment and uploading material:

15 January 2021 > 31 August 2021 (inclusive).

The organizers may, at its full discretion, extend the deadline initially indicated. An enrolment fee is payable for each project submitted to cover the administrative costs of the Contest. Once enrolled, it will be possible to proceed with the subsequent stages of paying the fee and submitting material. To participate in the Contest, the registration, enrolment and payment stages must be completed.
Participation in the Contest is subject to the payment of an enrolment fee, which is payable per project and not per participant. Enrolment fee (including VAT) per project:

Regular Prize:15 /01/2021 - 31/03/2021 → Euro 75.00
Late Prize: 01/04/2021 - 31/08/2021 → Euro 100,00
The following material must be uploaded to to participate in the Architects of Tomorrow Special Contest:

An abstract describing the thesis (up to 6,000 keystrokes, including spaces)

10/12 photos and project images (plans, cross sections, elevation drawings, detail drawings, concept, draft drawings, photos of the model, project drawings, including in 3D, renderings, parametric models, etc.).
Dimensions: Length of side 1,500 px
Formats: jpg, RGB, 72 dpi

1 zip file containing:
1 x A1 page in digital format (horizontal) presenting the project using the methods the candidates see as the most fitting to convey the meaning of the project Format: high quality jpg, 300 dpi, max 20 MB
Potentially an additional more detailed conceptual and methodological report in pdf, format A4. Photographic credits must be indicated for all the images. All images received will be considered free of rights
The official language of the Contest is English.
Failure to comply with the submission deadlines and other indications in clause 6 will result in exclusion from the selection process.

The Jury (details in clause 11) will select the winners and any special mentions from the finalists. The winners and those receiving mentions will be officially informed by the organizer of the Architects of Tomorrow Special Contest.
The Jury will be made up of leading people from the worlds of architecture, design and academia. The exact composition will be published on the official channels of THE PLAN AWARD 2021 connected to the Architects of Tomorrow Special Contest.
The awarding of the prizes for the winners of the Architects of Tomorrow Special Contest will form part of the awards ceremony for THE PLAN AWARD 2021.
The winning groups and those receiving mentions will be invited to the official awards ceremony for THE PLAN AWARD. All the winners and those receiving mentions in each category will receive a 1-year subscription to THE PLAN for free. The winning projects in each category will also receive a 3-month internship at established international practices.

N.B. Should the winner be from a group, the group leader indicated during enrolment for the contest will be offered the internship or, if he or she does not take up the offer, another member of the group that he/she designates.
In collaboration with THE PLAN Award, the IE School of Architecture and Design – based in Madrid and Segovia – offers a new opportunity to the winners of each category: a partial scholarship for its Master’s Full Time or Part Time Programs.

Pending admission to the master program, the scholarship grants 40% off the program’s tuition fees.
Without prejudice to any copyright, the participants allow Maggioli SpA, without giving rise to any claim whatsoever, to use the material and the works received, using any means but for the sole purposes of disseminating and promoting the award. Submitted projects might be included in one or more publications by Maggioli SpA, at its sole discretion.
By submitting the documentation required to take part in the competition, AWARD participants:

• Declare, under their own personal responsibility, to be the sole copyright holder for the works or the projects submitted and undertake to hold the publishing house Maggioli SpA and the magazine THE PLAN harmless from any disputes, claims or judgements by third parties concerning the works/projects used and disseminated in the publications referred to in these rules;
• Declare that the data and declarations included herewith are truthful and submitted under their full responsibility;
• Declare to have understood and accepted all the conditions established by these rules;
• Authorize the publishing house Maggioli SpA to keep all the material submitted and not to have to return anything;
• Authorize the publishing house Maggioli SpA and the magazine THE PLAN, promoters of the AWARDS, to use and disseminate the content of the works, whether published partially or in their entirety, including for promotional reasons, citing the source but without expectation of any compensation for copyright or other rights for any reason whatsoever. I also release the publishing house Maggioli SpA and the magazine THE PLAN from any liability pertaining to any kind of involvement or issue with third parties.
We hereby confirm that Maggioli S.p.a., in its capacity as Data Controller pursuant to the European General Data Protection Regulation UE 2016/679 GDPR,processes your personal data in order to allow you to participate in the initiative, and also to enable us subsequently to contact you in order to provide didactic material and eventual attendance certificates.

The personal data collected may be used in the future by the Data Controller to inform data subjects of other similar initiatives and update them on conferences and training events. While optional, the submission of personal data is indispensable in order for us to perform the services indicated. All personal data shall be processed using the appropriate hard-copy, computer or IT-enabled tools by specifically trained personnel as laid down by the GDPR, and may be communicated to public bodies or persons acting in a public capacity in compliance with current legal requirements, as well as to private bodies or persons to allow the data processing required to perform the services offered. Such bodies or persons include our network of sales agents, factoring companies, banks and financial institutions, credit recovery companies, credit insurance companies, commercial information companies, professionals and consultants, and transport sector companies. Maggioli SpA is hereby authorized by you to communicate personal data to supervisory bodies, or entities entitled to access personal data for tax or administrative purposes, or in order to issue professional certifications, etc.

Personal data may also be communicated to the companies of the Maggioli Group for the same data collection purposes and may be processed by specifically authorized employees and/or collaborators of the Group, including persons operating in the capacity of Data Processors, as well as independent Data Controllers working in the following business sectors: data centers; internet services, electronic publishing, mailing, marketing, trade shows and conferences, mailing, telesales, order handling departments, customer service, and administration. The personal data collected shall not be disseminated or ceded to third parties but may be communicated to companies, bodies or other entitles attending the event as partners, guests, sponsors or exhibitors for promotion purposes or in order to ensure the efficient organization of the event. Your personal data shall not be transferred outside the European Union. The period of the processing shall be limited to the time required to provide the services requested.

The period of document storage shall be that set down by tax, administrative and legal requirements. The electronic mail addresses listed on the attendance form shall be stored and used only for the purpose of sending communications regarding similar activities, until such time as the data subject requests cancellation of said e-mail(s).

Data subjects may at any time exercise their rights vis-à-vis the Data Controller pursuant to Articles 15 to 22 of the Regulation and applicable provisions of domestic law. In particular, data subjects may access their data and receive confirmation as to the existence or otherwise of their personal data, even if such data have not yet been registered, and receive communication of said data in an intelligible form. Data subjects may also request information regarding: the origin of the personal data, the purposes for and means by which such data have been processed, the criteria applied in the case of electronic data processing, details regarding the identity of the Data Controller, the Data Processors and the designated representative in accordance with Article 5, para. 2, as well as the recipients or categories of recipients who may receive the personal data or who may become cognizant of such personal data in their capacity as designated representative for the country, Data Processors, or mandated persons.

Data subjects are also entitled to: update and obtain the portability, erasure, limitation, transformation into anonymous form or blocking of their processed personal data; receive proof that the above-mentioned operations have been made known to all those to whom their personal data have been communicated, with the exception of those cases in which this proves impossible or would require manifestly disproportionate means compared to the right being safeguarded; oppose, for legitimate reasons, the processing of all or part of their personal data even if related to data collection and the processing of personal data for advertising, direct sales and commercial communication purposes, or to conduct market research. Data subjects also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, which in Italy is the “Garante per la protezione dei dati personali”.
