Danish architectural firm 3XN offers more than three decades of experience in designing and building innovative and human-focused architecture. Since its founding in 1986, the firm has become known for creating buildings of substance supported by a strong theoretical foundation. The abiding philosophy that architecture shapes behaviour guides all 3XN’s work, from award-winning corporate headquarters and residential buildings to cultural destinations and mixed-use urban districts. Notable past projects include the International Olympic Committee’s headquarters in Lausanne (Switzerland); the cube (Berlin) and the new Sydney Fish Market (Australia).

Carmen Andriani | The Plan

Carmen Andriani

Architect and Full Professor of Architecture and Urban Design, University of Genoa

Besides her academic involvement in Genoa and at numerous international schools, Carmen Andriani is author of projects published and exhibited in editions of the Venice Biennale and Milan Triennale, and she has won over time prizes and awards. She founded and directed the series Forme del Cemento (2005/2016). She promoted and curated the multimedia conference Ricordo al futuro (Biennale di Venezia/MiBAC, 2008), around a renewed notion of heritage. In 2013, she won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the international Icastica event. In 2014, she founded the permanent laboratory Coastal Design Lab (dAD /UniGe) about the abandoned industrial heritage at the interface between the city and the port. She is a member of numerous scientific committees. In 2020, she founded and directed the series Image and Form on the relationship between art, architecture and public space.

Jury member: Alfonso Femia (Architect, Founder, President and CEO)

Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia (AF517), formerly 5+1AA, was founded by Alfonso Femia and fellow travelers. Since 1995, they have explored the world and human relationships through architecture, dialogue and matter. Listening and searching are posited on the idea that the project is a medium for communication, prompting the creation of spaces and architecture that are part of “chronotopic” cities. The practice focuses on urban regeneration and major new-build projects in key Italian and Mediterranean cities. Atelier(s) Alfonso Femia (AF517) stays in touch with the construction world through constant collaboration with a range of companies in various sectors but also with the craft sector, confirming the importance of close exchange between all project players.

Alison Brooks, B.E.S. B.Arch RIBA FRSA RDI, is one of the UK’s leading architects. Born and educated in Canada, she moved to London in 1988 and founded Alison Brooks Architects in 1996. Her design philosophy fuses history, community and locality to produce architecture with clear civic purpose, encompassing urban design, housing, higher education and the arts. A Visiting Professor at ETSAM (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid), she lectures internationally.

Winka Dubbeldam

Founder Archi-Tectonics, Miller Professor and Chair of Architecture, Stuart Weitzman School Of Design, UPenn

Winka Dubbeldam is founder of Archi-Tectonics. She serves as Miller Professor and chair of the Department of Architecture at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Winka has also previously taught at Columbia University, Harvard University and Cornell University. The work of Winka and Archi-Tectonics has been featured in countless publications including a number of monographs; a new book Strange objects, New solids, Massive things is coming out Fall 2021 with Actar Spain. Archi-Tectonics also recently won the Asian Games 2022 competition, with a 116-acre sports park, two stadiums and five auxiliary buildings, which are nearing completion in Hangzhou, China.

The practice became a partnership in 2007 and operates worldwide with offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Dubai, Melbourne, and Sydney, employing over 500 collaborators. The company’s work is characterized by strong conceptual legibility, innovation, and a rigorous approach to detailing, all underpinned by the principles of humane, enduring, and sustainable design. The practice is dedicated to the deepest level of involvement in the design of its buildings to deliver projects that meet the highest possible standards of excellence.

Andrew Whalley, Grimshaw partner and Chairman has worked in the practice since 1986. He has been involved with academia throughout his career at the Royal College of Art Industrial Design Department, The Bartlett, UCL and the Architectural Association. But also at the Washington University and Politecnico di Milano. Andrew succeeded Sir Nicholas Grimshaw as Chairman in June 2019.

His latest publications include a book about the National Museum of Qatar, designed by Jean Nouvel (Thames & Hudson), and monographs on Kengo Kuma and Norman Foster (Taschen).
