Villa M2, designed as a long structure

The main element in the project design was the view. In the project, which is located on a hill above the city of Kigali, all spaces overlook the view. All bedrooms and bathrooms overlook the view. For this reason, the building was designed as a long structure. There is only a home cinema and a guest room on the upper floor, and the fact that the first floor was completely unused contributed to us achieving an architecturally original design in the structure.

The fact that the first floor is smaller than the ground floor gave rise to the idea that these two floors should be separated from each other, and the 1st floor was designed as a break from the ground floor with glass joinery.

Being able to see this view from any part of the house on the land, which has a very beautiful view, will be a great source of pleasure for home users. The beautiful view pushed us to design the building as a mass overlooking the view. The project land, which is flat and rectangular, dictated to us the design of a building that extends throughout the land in order to see the view from every place.

The cantilever ceiling on the ground floor prevent the sun from coming directly into the space, preventing the building from overheating and increasing energy use. In the bathroom, living room roof lights allow more light to enter the space and illuminate the house with less electrical energy. The high windows on the other three facades other than the front façade provide the house with light-filled spaces in all directions and reduce the amount of electricity usage.

The building is a linear structure and within this length, the ground floor pillars and the 250 cm consoles of the 1st floor on both sides give the building an architectural identity. The ground floor cornices and the 1st floor cornices are two architectural elements that speak the same language in different ways. The cross-section of the building hosts very rich intersections. The entrance hall is 2 floors high and behind it is an inner garden connecting the hall to the 1st floor. The building is single-storey on both sides of the hall and there is only a first floor above the hall. The use of a semi-open terrace in front of each space provides a transitional space while connecting the ground floor spaces to the garden, thanks to the canopy on the columns.

Only original house in neighbourhood.
