The Mykolaiv Shipyard Revitalization project is a key part of the “Deep Blue Transition for Mykolaiv” Programme, which is implemented by the All-Ukrainian Public Organisation UABSC - Ukrainian Association of Business Support Centers, with the support of the Joint Initiative of the European Union and the UN Development Programme “Mayors for Economic Growth”. The concept for the project was designed to support the socio-economic recovery of the city and the needs and requirements of the local community, whilst celebrating the industrial heritage of the area.
The regeneration project forms a crucial component of a broader Masterplan Strategy devised by One Works to foster the socio-economic revival of Mykolaiv city. Located on a former industrial site integral to Mykolaiv’s historic shipbuilding industry, the project places significant emphasis on preserving industrial heritage. This is achieved by integrating new amenities and facilities like commercial spaces, residential areas, recreational zones, and even modern shipbuilding facilities in harmony with existing historical structures such as steel warehouse frames and waterfront cranes.
The project incorporates sustainability through various strategies. It features extensive green spaces throughout the site, enhancing biodiversity and creating natural habitats within the urban environment. These green areas not only improve air quality but also provide recreational spaces for residents and visitors. Additionally, the project promotes sustainable transport by prioritizing pedestrian-friendly pathways, cycle lanes, and efficient public transport links. This encourages walking and cycling, reduces emissions, and promotes healthier lifestyles. There are also provisions for generating green energy, which involve integrating renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and wind turbines into the development.
The Mykolaiv Shipyard Revitalization project aims to transform a former industrial site into a vibrant mixed-use area along the waterfront. Crucial for Mykolaiv's recovery, it focuses on boosting the local economy and enhancing community well-being. The project integrates residential, commercial, and recreational spaces to attract diverse activities and promote social interaction. It celebrates the city's industrial history by preserving historical buildings, enriching the area's cultural identity. Sustainability is central, with initiatives promoting eco-friendly mobility and renewable energy. This includes enhancing pedestrian and cycling routes and efficient transport links. Green spaces will provide venues for community gatherings and leisure, enhancing the overall aesthetic. The waterfront will offer shops, restaurants, and recreational facilities, catering to residents and visitors alike. Plans include facilities for yacht storage and small-scale shipbuilding, supporting local maritime traditions and entrepreneurship. Ultimately, the project aims to enhance the cityscape and revitalize Mykolaiv's cultural heritage, fostering pride and identity among residents.
At the crossroads between our past, present, and future, this project will play a key role in revitalising Mykolaiv's historical shipyard, transforming it into a new urban district. This project will allow us to celebrate Mykolaiv’s industrial heritage while providing a contemporary, green setting for new workers, residents, and visitors alike.
