SIT Group Headquarters, a facade enclosed in a sinuous shape

The studio took care of the entire integrated and coordinated design of all disciplines as well as the interior design project. The rooms were designed to ensure comfort and sustainability, as well as to provide an adequate representation of the company's excellence. This is a new regeneration project for the Milanese firm, which for several years has been working closely with SIT, a world leader in the sector that, since 1953, has been creating intelligent solutions for climate control and consumption measurement for a more sustainable world.

In keeping with the company's philosophy, architect Tortato has totally redeveloped the existing buildings. Patios and green spaces were also introduced to enhance the new iconic 'SIT LAB' building, dedicated to the Research and Development department, the beating heart of SIT. An iconic and technological building that, thanks to its sinuous shapes, imposes itself as the visual focus of the entire area even in the evening hours, during which 'the spaceship' turns into a sort of luminous lantern that attracts even more attention. The studio was also involved in the redevelopment of the industrial production warehouses, which have already been completed in the first phase of the building site in 2023.

In the industrial complex there are management offices and laboratories - innovatively designed and digitally connected, characterised by internal differentiation to meet different work requirements. Great flexibility and habitability, key elements of the new way of experiencing work. Taking advantage of the existing structure, the spaces were emptied to create patios of light and greenery, eliminating even the false ceilings, thus restoring the original great heights. Natural light and the presence of greenery are in fact the guidelines that architect Tortato's studio followed for the design of SIT's new headquarters, which also includes the installation of a major photovoltaic system to produce part of the energy necessary for the company's activities.

When we operate on two fronts, i.e. the creation of a brand new building and the regeneration of an existing one, we are able to intervene on all important aspects because we have ample room for manoeuvre. Designing the new R&D department allowed us to create an iconic and technological building, which was also welcoming for those who work in it, adapting and organising the work spaces to the real daily needs. In the redevelopment, on the other hand, we started from empty buildings in order to create spaces of great flexibility and habitability here as well. Then, following our philosophy and that of the client, we put the well-being of the individual at the centre, creating green spaces that allow workers to have areas where they can relax or draw inspiration. On the technological side, we have used BIM technology for a more comprehensive design and included a large photovoltaic system, which is fundamental in creating a project that is as sustainable as possible.

The project for SIT's new HQ is perfectly in line with the design philosophy that focuses on the wellbeing of the individual and follows the principles of maximum flexibility and smart working, in line with the most recent directives for returning to work. It also envisages the creation of green spaces, through the creation of planted patios that will allow all to enjoy the presence of nature with the possibility of using them also during the summer months as work and relaxation spaces.

Curriculum

Based in Milan, the Giuseppe Tortato Architetti studio develops architecture and interior design projects offering a multidisciplinary and tailor-made approach for Italian and international clients, both corporate and private. Their approach to design stems from research into sensory experience and sustainability, considering the human being as the central element and brings nature into the designed spaces. With the realization of La Forgiatura, which was later joined by the Econocom headquarters in Milan, the firm came to national and international attention. Over the years the Studio has been involved in other important projects: Arcadia Center, the headquarters of Volkswagen Leasing and Volkswagen Bank, Il Refettorio in Venice, SIT headquarters in Padua, and via Varesina 204 in Milan, the Italian headquarters of Whirlpool. Today, the Studio is made up of a multidisciplinary team and carries out research and design work on a national and international level in several sectors.
