Nanchang Honggutan MixC, a new dynamic urban space

AICO

Renovation  /  Completed
AICO

From design to opening, the design team transformed it from a traditional building materials and home furnishings mall into a dynamic urban destination catering to the young and energetic within less than two years. The greatest challenge of this project was enhancing both its internal space and external image to meet current and future commercial needs, all within a tight renovation schedule and limited budget. Our goal was not only to renovate and repurpose the space but also to elevate the consumption scenarios, lifestyles, and urban vitality.

The central axis park is the project's most significant feature. Beyond the main shopping center, our design focus was to activate the idle underground commercial area beneath the central axis park. We opened up the originally enclosed underground space to form a sunken open district, creating an above-ground and underground interconnected urban space attribute, thus invigorating the central axis of the CBD and urban space vitality. The parking building situated on one side of the central axis occupies the best city frontage, which we transformed into a super art core linking the shopping center with the open district. The simple form allows the building to present two different images during the day and night. Once completed, the project has become the most iconic urban landmark in there.

Based on the project positioning as an "all-weather, one-stop lifestyle center of trends, greenery, and social interaction," we proposed the concepts of "super collection," "super youth," and "super renewal." We envisioned a commercial layout integrating a park, a district, and a shopping center, breaking the traditional single-box commercial space to create an iterative composite business model that shifts from shopping-oriented to experience-oriented.

Nanchang Honggutan MixC is located on the most vibrant urban central axis of the Honggutan CBD and is an essential part of the city's financial core. Nanchang Honggutan MixC, with its unique commercial form, architectural aesthetics, and ideal lifestyle, creates an enjoyable social space where architecture is readable, the city feels warm, and districts are walkable, bringing a new and beautiful living experience to Nanchang. The simple form allows the building to present two different images during the day and night. Once completed, the project has become the most iconic urban landmark in the area.

Nanchang Honggutan MixC breaks the traditional single box business model and uses the unique "block +MALL" commercial form to build a fun and social life field with buildings open for reading, cities open for temperature and streets open for walking, aiming to refresh and upgrade Nanchang people's lifestyle.
