Innovation prism is inspired by the diamond form, deconstructing the surfaces of prisms and then reassembling them to form the façade shape. To emphasize the primary circulation running in the east-west direction throughout the park, the design envelops the top of the scattered buildings with three integrated volumes. It creates a continuous image, particularly visible from the main roads, providing an overall park impression. The whole facade is effectively cut based on the internal secondary circulation revealing the short sides of the frames and the buildings below. The architectural facade covers the ramps and circular roads at different heights, creating a two-story geometric skin for all facades facing the main roads, allowing all architectural elements to form an organic whole.

Situated in Shanghai's Lingang Industrial Zone, close to Hangzhou Bay, Innovation Prism is surrounded by several industrial parks of similar scale. Located in the central area of the industrial zone, Innovation Prism’s layout inherits the efficient linear and determinant style of surroundings. The reshaped innovated massing and the façade design break the dreary atmosphere of the context, which not only create the visual focus of the whole area, but also increase the interesting and futuristic feeling of traditional industrial production zone.

Focusing on the streetscape, integrate and continuous façade accumulate the image of whole park instead of fragmented boring streetscape, especially from the main street and riverside, which enriches the experience of vehicles and pedestrians.

The building layout is studied to form two ventilation corridors in the site to introduce fresh air into the buildings. At the same time, the buildings are slightly staggered, so to avoid excessive wind. The industrial buildings apply skylights for lighting, which effectively improves indoor light and saves energy. In terms of the outdoor contributions, the external area ground material are mainly permeable materials, such as permeable bricks and ecological parking spaces. As for the planting, the native ones are preferentially selected with ornamental value, and paying attention to the abundance of seasonal changes, avoiding plants that are toxic, polluting or produce a lot of pollen, eventually create an ecological landscape environment.

Firstly, Innovation Prism Industry Park reinforces its landmark status by creating a striking architectural impression with its sculpted surfaces against the stereotyped impression of industry park. Secondly, the choice of facade materials effectively balances the need for cost efficiency by employing localized and affordable option like metal tensile mesh, ripped steel plate and weatherability painting complemented. Thirdly, strategies of color reinforce the high-tech futurism feeling by blending light and dark hues, especially the bright orange tone as the embellishment.

Under such stringent budget constraints, the partial double skin facade, together with the artful selection of materials and color matching capture the modern, industrialized, technological, and futuristic essence of the architectural style. It arises into a unified industry park, which highlighting its distinctive industrial feature and establishing itself as the iconic landmark of Lingang Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Zone.

This industrial architectural complex seamlessly integrates and mutually enhances its surroundings, form, facade, and materials across multiple dimensions. It authentically embodies the industrial essence of the park while also showcasing its landmark and iconic status, reflecting the entrepreneurial spirit of our GLP.
