Battistella Headquarters: transparency and lightness

The building was conceived as an extension to the historic Battistella headquarters to create a two-level showroom space, and a third floor dedicated to the new Novamobili offices.
The design idea was born from a concept of transparency and lightness. This was developed by creating a volume of diamond-patterned glass on a white metal diamond-shaped structure. The sense of lightness was further accentuated by suspending the entire building from the ground with a recessed base. The external areas were designed like a plaza, with tone-on-tone gray triangulations, surrounding both the new building and the existing headquarters. The geometric lines of the facade blend with the broken lines of the internal walls, which enclose the showroom space with shapes reminiscent of rocky walls.

The building was conceived from its inception to be entirely made of silk-screened glass to better integrate it architecturally into the delicate context of the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The glass reflects the surrounding landscape, enhancing its features. The paved areas were treated as plazas, and the geometric lines of the facade blend with the broken lines of the interior walls. These walls mimic the surrounding landscape by simulating the fractured lines of the rocks. During the day, the glass reflects the colors of the landscape, while at night, the lighting allows the rocky volume inside to be perceived. The texture of the glass partitions in the workspaces creates an ethereal and misty effect.

The building is entirely made of silk-screened glass, designed to maximize natural light utilization and reduce energy consumption. The ethereal and misty texture of the glass contributes to a comfortable working environment, reducing the need for artificial cooling systems. Advanced technologies such as a photovoltaic system for renewable energy production have been implemented, thereby reducing environmental impact. High-density insulation materials and high-efficiency thermal and luminous glass were used to enhance the building's energy performance. Innovations like the Building Management System (BMS) control and optimize LED lighting, natural ventilation, and HVAC systems, ensuring optimal comfort for occupants with reduced energy consumption.

The building features a diamond-patterned glass facade supported by a white metal framework, seamlessly integrating with the surrounding environment. Inside, the showroom is defined by intersecting geometric lines and rugged partitions reminiscent of rock formations, creating a dynamic interplay between interior and exterior spaces.

The main entrance, designed in a lambda (λ) shape, reflects an inward push from the external facade, maintaining the diamond pattern seamlessly. Crafted from solid steel blocks, the entrance showcases irregular nodes inspired by the diamond mesh. The entrance hall boasts a striking reinforced concrete staircase, floating freely and supported by white metal "trees," complemented by metal slat railings that add a rhythmic touch. Suspended walkways further define the hall space, sometimes merging with internal partitions.

On the ground floor, visitors navigate through double-height spaces between glass facades and partitions covered by frosted glass ceilings, allowing filtered natural light into the showroom. These design elements not only enhance spatial dynamics but also optimize light penetration in an indirect manner. The adjacent side of the building features exposed concrete facades, housing two overlapping reinforced concrete staircases with resin floors.

A fully glassed-in bridge on the second floor connects the new structure seamlessly to the existing building, while the third floor accommodates modern office spaces.

The Battistella Group has described the expansion of Battistella Headquarters as a "milestone in the group's history, celebrating 70 years of the company." This creates a place with an innovative and technological soul where visitors can discover the latest design innovations from the three brands. The 2000 square meters dedicated to brand showrooms represent not only a physical expansion but also a space where skills and experiences can converge, promoting innovation in the design.

Curriculum

Based in Treviso, SIGNOROTTO + PARTNERS is an interdisciplinary team specializing in architecture, interior design, urban planning, landscape design, and industrial design. The studio seeks new spatial solutions for contemporary urban contexts, focusing on the relationship between buildings and spaces while promoting innovative projects.

Our passion for shapes, materials, and creating practical yet beautiful objects drives each project. Our designs are clear-cut, linear, and simple. Ideas stem from everyday life and practical needs rather than nature. Curiosity leads us to experiment with new combinations and explore new paths. Tradition and experience guide us, reminding us to look to the past to envision the future.

We are designers, craftsmen, researchers, storytellers, and architects, but most of all, we are dreamers. Collaborating with brands and clients worldwide, we embrace cultural differences and diverse project approaches.
