We have been appointed to design a group of rural buildings to house the spaces for the activities and ofices of a family-run farm in Veneto. It is inspired by the traditional country villas of the powerful Venetian families that were located in the heart of the rural estates to control the agricultural activities. Far from being so big, the building is a contemporary translation of an architecture linked to the local tradition, such as the layout and the wide (but light and thin) pitched roof.
The farm is located in a suburban area with a rural vocation, the buildings lay in the hearth of the fields and arranges its orchards and vegetable gardens all around. The complex is made of different buildings, all of one single floor and arranged around pathways and courtyards, as reminiscence of rural backyards used for animals rising, and social gatherings. The most internal yard has a watwer pond facing the lawns.
The architecture looks very low and connected to the ground. Simple, archetype volumes are kept down by the peculiar pitched roofs. Despite the traditional references, the house has very contemporary materials, such as exposed concrete used both indoor and outdoor -colored in a brown tone that is matching with brown roof tiles- and the continuous horizontal surface of washed concrete flooring. The longitudinal wings of the farm will be built with the Trilama construction system (reinforced concrete load-bearing walls with integrated thermal insulation). The finish of the external walls will therefore be in exposed concrete in a grey/dark brown colour, as will the perimeter walls of the courtyards. The roofing will be in dark grey/brown tiles in shade with the concrete walls. The ceiling of the external roof windows will be clad in wood.
The windows and doors, characterized by large floor-to-ceiling windows, will be made of dark metal externally and wooden internally.
