The project enjoys the landmark gateway location where the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal meets the Qiantang River in Hangzhou. The practise renovates and reuses the industrial remains of the former grain depot east of Hangzhou, and build a new industrial office building integrating science and technology, culture, experience and practice. The original grain depot roof was updated into a roof garden on the basis of retaining the arched steel truss elements, providing better landscape resources for the park. The former cargo wharf is converted into a passenger yacht wharf and used as a conservation and exhibition center of canal culture.
The facade design of new-built office building abstractly extracts surrounding symbols, that the arch bridge, the porthole of ship and the mosque architecture to realize the exquisite treatment of arc angle beveling of the node details of the building, forming an architectural image with unique style and distinctive features.
Architects keep the arched roof truss, concrete trusses and tower crane of the original factory building to continue the urban memory of the canal. Based on the renovation of the interior space and facade, the former cargo wharf is converted into a passenger yacht wharf and used as a conservation and exhibition center of canal culture. In terms of the new office building, architects propose the concept of "matrix box ". The canal-facing terraces respect and echo the canal landscape in space, and can meet the height control requirements around the canal. It is a modern interpretation of the traditional Jiangnan settlement pattern that unfolds along the plane, forming a vertically stacked settlement pattern and vertically growing hanging courtyard, finally providing a diversified, creative and personalized office environment for the industrial park. The facade design adheres to the principles of modernity, simplicity, innovation and economy, and fully taps the intention of canal culture. The simple and stylish architectural image reflects the culture of the canal and responds to the spirit of the place, perfectly fitting the project's image as an innovative industrial park.
The project is targeted to provide personalized and independent office space for cultural, Internet, scientific and technological creative enterprises. Such firms have strong growth, with the development and demand for R&D display from small to large.
