Gree Hungary Headquarters, embraced by white cypresses

TIBA Architects Studio

The new office building designed by TIBA Architects Studio was built right next to the meandering backwaters of the Körös River embraced by white cypresses in a small Hungarian town, Szarvas. The place is a defining point of the city's new area with the protected trees, symbolizing a new direction and type of urban development. Thanks to the fine details and the generous but thoughtful design, the house blends into the landscape and surroundings. Inside the building, a triple layering can be read: the architecture, the visible mechanical engineering and electrical systems, and the interior design. Although these layers are well separated, they remain in harmonious unity with each other.

The Client’s business has grown significantly in recent years, therefore the development required the creation of a larger, state-of-the art headquarter that fully satisfies the needs of its employees and organisation. there The Client requested, that the mechanical systems distributed by the company should be integrated into the interior. The most important design consideration was the maximum protection and preservation of the protected white cypresses on the site. The cutoff meander of the Körös river, located directly next to the design area, significantly influences the groundwater level. The current water level changes with the water level of the Körös River. Accordingly, the construction of a pile foundation was the feasible solution.

The goal was to create a built environment where nature subtly fits into the interior, becomes part of it, and the office function exits and connects with nature. Being present in the office space, we can feel embraced by the trees and the river. Using the shade-giving white cypresses next to the building as workstations, we can observe the surrounding wooded groves through the building, like looking through a glass membrane. Inside and outside lose their significance, they blend. This effect is further enhanced by the two glazed patios placed at strategic points of the building. The daylight - filtered by the branches and leaves of the trees, partly through the entire glass facade, and partly through the glazed patios within the building -reaches all the functional spaces of the building.

The building is the headquarter of the GREE electric appliances representative office. However, the house goes beyond the formula of the untouchable glass palace and turns to the city with a bistro. A new community space is created on the bank of the Holt-Körös. High-quality waterfront spaces are old scarce items of the lowland settlements. The restaurant provides a high-quality environment for its gastronomic goals on the renewed waterfront. The main entrance of the office building faces east. The separation of the two functions is further strengthened by the half-level shift. The office spaces fluidly connect to the lobby. On the ground and first floor, the combined layout dominates. As a flagship, a smart building management system controls the fresh air supply, temperature, shading, lighting, and professional audiovisual technology. The regulation of temperature, humidity, and fresh air is completely self-learning and automated. To ensure optimal comfort, the system continuously monitors air quality. Cooling and, to some extent, heating are provided by a central heat pump air conditioning system. The latest Gree air-to-water heat pumps, which are part of the system, use renewable energy for heating. The system installed in the office building - taking into account the needs of different rooms to achieve a more comfortable sense of warmth; it is capable of cooling in one room and heating the air in another simultaneously.

"We are proud to have completed a high-tech, state-of-the art new headquarter in the city of Szarvas"
