The initial distribution was ordinary::a large hall, corridor, living room, two bedrooms, kitchen, a bathroom. The clients needed: double bathroom, large living room, bedroom with walk-in closet, bedroom and kitchen. To achieve this, it was necessary to overturn the original distribution, so I positioned the sleeping area on the opposite side and the living zone at west where was a panoramic terrace. I therefore used the entrance and corridor to create space and moved the entrance door centrally. The clients needed to show the many objects purchased abroad, thus was born the idea of the "Traveller's House" creating a liveable cultural fluidity. The entrance is therefore round, like the planet, with all directions in the wooden "compass rose" on the floor and circular false ceiling.
This flat is located in a central area of the Vomero Arenella district in Naples, in a 1964 building made of reinforced concrete. The apartment is located on the seventh floor and enjoys a fantastic panoramic view from the balconies from which you can admire the volcano Vesuvius with Monte Somma, the islands of Capri and Ischia, the Monte di Procida promotory and the hermitage convent of the Camaldoli.
The exposure is excellent from east to west, as the shape of the apartment is an "L". The greatest challenge was to study how to bring natural south-west light towards the otherwise dark internal parts, using cuts at the top of some walls and reflective surfaces in the false ceilings. Where the light would not have reached, I used light conveyors flow into a diffuser methacrylate false ceiling. Thanks to this strategy, even the bathroom, the walk-in closet and the small bedroom receive natural light and throughout the house it is not essential to turn on the electric light during the day. The lights and shadows thus vary throughout the day in always different effects. L'ottima esposizione da est a ovest, lasciava zone interne buie, risolto con tagli di luce e diffusori nei controsoffitti.
The flat is bright and panoramic but the dimensions were limited compared to the requests. So the project was studied in every small space for wall furniture. The search for light and the use of natural materials such as wood and stone are in many corners of the house in a play of light/shadow. The doors are handcrafted and,on the night side, separate or join the bathroom into the suite. The clients had few furnishings, a sofa, three wooden pieces of furniture, a shower cabin to use in the main bathroom. The most sought-after room is the small bathroom, in which I created a hand-made removable wooden false ceiling. In this "Balinese" bathroom, the white stones and bamboo with inserts of scented cinnamon in the sandstone and a vertical mirror that refers to infinity, create a comfortable environment evocative of distant places. The parquet at the entrance is designed in detail and created by specialists. In the kitchen the flooring is made of stone and steel slats in a mix of technology and references to tomato sauce... a food so close to Naples that it recalls Warhol's distant Campbell's... In the living room there is a large wall bookcase with an iron structure, covered in walnut wood and lacquered doors with a colonial flavour. The dining area between the living room and the kitchen is in a corner like in a galleon with lights on ropes and bamboo. The flat is full of handcrafted details from the knobs to the lighting fixtures, all unique pieces for the traveler's home.
The comfort and suggestions that this house, with its warm and welcoming atmosphere conveys to citizens of the world, d becomes timeless.

Curriculum
For years Ersilia Russo has been designing houses that go against the tendency towards homologation and the flattening of tastes, trying to create new environments that are always unique and never the same, just as every person is unique. The search for personalized details, even traditional materials to be crafted by hand, gives uniqueness to each project.
Specializing in very small spaces, design and research on the use of healthy materials, it participated in the last three The Plan Awards, having been in short list in these prestigious design competitions.
Every project he tackles is a tailor-made suit carried out with dedication and respect for Nature and love for Life.
