Japan’s aesthetic sensibility, deeply rooted in its own traditions and culture, has gracefully embraced and woven other cultural influences into its fabric, creating a unique interpretation of beauty.

The design concept is "A fusion and innovation of Thai and Japanese aesthetics". Our aim was to reflect the spirit of both cultures throughout the hotel: 'innovation that finds new expressions while inheriting tradition', 'craftsmanship that underpins quality production handed down through the ages' and 'respect for the richness of nature in both countries'.

This high-rise hotel stands adjacent to Namba Station, the doorway to Osaka’s main area, Minami, rising as a new landmark in one of Japan’s top international travel destinations. Planned and integrated with two other adjoining facilities, the resulting city block became Namba Parks South. The hotel’s lower portion harmonizes with its surroundings with continuous storefronts and an extensive landscaping strategy, creating synergy with neighboring buildings and unifying the design of the entire block. The development also broadened existing pedestrian decks, enhancing urban circulation by improving access to Namba’s south side. By supplementing the lacking-in-accommodation neighborhood, it will become a tourism and business hub revitalizing the local economy and enriching the whole area.

Laminated timber furniture is used throughout the entire hotel, reducing the carbon footprint while also serving as a key design element. MDF, made from wood scraps and shavings, was adopted as the base material for wooden construction in rooms to make full use of resources. Plantfiber-based washi paper is incorporated in elements such as the lobby ceiling and banquet and guest room feature walls, conveying Japanese aesthetics while utilizing materials with low environmental impact. In the Thai-centered restaurant, materials and resources with minimal environmental load are used as accents, like a discarded three-wheeled tuk tuk from Thailand reused as seating. Committed to protecting the environment, the hotel provides guests with reusable water bottles and amenities made from wood.

The hotel’s main trait is that it is an entertainment destination hotel. Wandering through the building allows for an exceptional experience traveling between Thailand and Japan, making the hotel a destination in itself. The elevator hall, evokes the Thai Lantern Festival, aims to build anticipation for the experiences awaiting on the upper floors.

The entrance of the all-day dining area, openly inviting from the lobby, welcomes guests into a new realm of delight and enjoyment. Meanwhile, the banquet area celebrates the art of bamboo crafting, a tradition shared by both Japan and Thailand, through the use of artwork, furniture, and carpets that feature bamboo shapes and weaving techniques. The spa area is inspired by the soft and chewy texture of wagashi, from the softly embracing mochi-like form of the furniture to the gently enveloping sheer curtains, guests can gain the unique healing experience of an authentic Thai massage.
Guest rooms with the culture and motifs of the traditional Japanese performing arts of Noh and the tea ceremony, both rooted in shared aesthetic principles. both rooted in shared aesthetic principles. In addtion, the Club Lounge, inspired by the traditional Japanese kimono, incorporates original patterns that imagine traditional Thai designs within this context. These patterns are seamlessly integrated into screens and graphics.

We sincerely hope that the hotel will serve to deepen the appreciation and understanding of both cultures.

The design team took our requests and thoughts into consideration and has exquisitely reflected Japanese and Thai ethics and traditions in the interior design of each area. We are very much looking forward to offering our guests a range of fascinating surprises here at Centara Grand Hotel Osaka.
