The Village: views that extend towards the jungle and the sea

The Village, a new residential development on the Riviera Maya in Mexico, used its significant geographical (jungle) and historical (pre-Hispanic Mayan culture) context as a conceptual basis to allow an extensive residential masterplan to insert itself into a territory of unique qualities consciously. Presented as a defragmented pyramid of studied proportions, the main architecture is based on an analysis of the height of the endemic nature of the site, thereby enabling perspectives and views that extend towards the jungle and the sea, as well as within the complex, intending to organically relate to its surroundings.

The building responds to a random composition of terraces, which gives it the dynamic character that makes it distinctive. This randomness converges with the idea of creating green masses that cohabit with the architecture; not only as a sensorial, attractive landscape, but also dedicating these green spaces for the self-sustainable cultivation of vegetable gardens, with 80% of endemic species. The programmatic distribution for the residential masterplan was devised to make the most of the property, but without losing the importance of respecting its natural context. Therefore, it was considered to allocate 45% of the land as a free area, creating exterior and common spaces for its inhabitants at the center of the site to enjoy experiences and amenities in support of community development.

The Village concept is a unique interpretation of the Mayan Ruins, taking inspiration from defragmented pyramids of studied proportions. The main architecture is based on a careful analysis of the endemic nature of the site, to create an organic relationship between the structure and its surroundings. The height of the endemic nature of the site was a key consideration in the design process the project seeks to create a space that is both visually stunning and environmentally sustainable. The result is a piece of contemporary architecture that blends seamlessly with its surroundings, giving the impression that it has been there for a much longer period of time. This approach not only creates a sense of timelessness but also promotes a deeper connection between people and their environment. By creating a space that is in harmony with the natural world, The Village invites people to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the world around them. The project has schemed within a reticular system of modular spaces to respond to the efficient design strategy of arranging different dwelling configurations –ranging from 80 to 160 sqm– in a single structure and easy to be constructed. This visually complex volume is ordered according to the modulation of 4m x 4m structural boards, being the basic constructive element of the entire project. Within this system –based on concrete frames–, delivering an efficenciably constructable method.

"Immersed within and inspired by its serene jungle surroundings, this Sordo Madaleno-designed Village invites residents to enjoy an abundance of family-friendly resort features." Origina, developer.
