Kindergarten is the first station for kids to shape their personality. The design is based on child psychology, with the concept of “Cloud House on the Forest”, creating a new paradigm for preschool education, orchestrating a fantasy for new teaching concept. Warm white and wood colors are used, allowing the plain base image to become a place for children to fill in the color. Volume units are linked by circular verandas, allowing children to explore, bringing children's creativity. The building and nature are symbiotic. The activity room on the first floor blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor, and the unrestricted space brings the release of children's nature. All these, together to construct a return to the true, pleasant and full of exploration of the "infinite" garden.

The site is tight, only the west side is directly adjacent to the road, all sides are surrounded by high-rise residential buildings, bringing the sense of sunshine shelter and scale suppression. The north side of the road edge is lush with trees, which brings natural vitality to the site. The design adopts a multi-level, orderly and changing staggered layout to comprehensively solve the sunshine and functional problems in high-density cities. The volume units staggeringly advance and retreat, forming a staggered urban interface and a multi-directional transparent space view corridor. The roof forms a continuous fifth facade with two slopes, which is lively and becomes a visual highlight in the residential area with a single texture.

The layout of the staggered volumes incorporates sunlight, greenery and breezes to adapt to Shanghai's humid and warm climate. The landscape is equipped with a large amount of ground greening, which helps to create a microclimate, enhance ecological functions. South inclined roof partial installation of solar photovoltaic power generation system, make full use of the sunshine conditions in Shanghai area, which is a green and environmentally friendly measure. The facade is wrapped with corrugated perforated aluminum panel curtain wall, which has good self-cleaning properties and achieves high quality finish results at a low cost. The project won the International Design Awards (IDA) 2023 Gold Award in the Educational Architecture Design Category.

Faced with tight land conditions, the project adopts a staggered and rhythmic layout, incorporating sunlight, green and breezes, so that children can feel the fragrance of earth and natural breath. At the same time, the scale sense of the large-scale kindergarten of 15 classes is weakened, just like the fairy tale village. Building and environment integration, the ground landscape around the six theme courtyards, corridors and courtyards are connected, nature and architecture are intertwined with each other, the first floor can be opened and closed activity room to bring blurring boundaries of internal and external penetration, together with the courtyard to form a connected and changing space, let children close to nature. To create a different view experience, the first floor uses a pedestal type of wooden house, showing the texture of the ground. The second and third floors are themed units to create a warm and comfortable dream castle. The outside is wrapped by corrugated perforated aluminum plates, and the size of the window changes from height to height, with a hazy light penetration effect, full of children's interest. Create a warm and poetic pleasant interior, simple and bright large space for furniture layout and flexible use to provide the basis, but also effectively control the cost of decoration. Skylights, floor-to-ceiling Windows, high Windows and colored Windows are combined to allow children to explore the outside scene from different visual heights.

This project is the first public kindergarten in the surrounding area. It provides high-level preschool education for children at a lower cost, reducing the unfair education caused by family background, gender and other factors. The client evaluated that the design conforms to the development direction of the education concept, adapts to the comprehensive development of children, and lays a solid foundation for their future social participation and contribution.
