The project of the primary school of Dolzago (LC) was conceived to respond to the main and secondary functions indicated in the competition notice, distributing them along a main axis in relation to the orientation of the lot. The configuration of the site has significantly influenced the spatial organization: the service functions are located to the north, near the main entrance connected to the public park, while the four teaching sections and the special classrooms are located to the south, making the most of the solar radiation and creating a protected internal green area for play and outdoor activities.

The project area is located between a large industrial plant (south side), a public park (north side), a condominium residential building and the Town Hall (west side) and the main Via Montecuccoli (east side). The design choices were influenced by the characteristics of the surrounding buildings. The compact fronts face the main street (via Montecuccoli) and the urban park, while the southern front is characterized by large windows and is screened by trees that create shade and protect from the view of the existing industrial plant.
The project follows sustainable building principles, using certified ecological materials and dry technologies to reduce the use of cement mortars and iron. The wooden load-bearing structure guarantees reduced construction times, a clean construction site and an effective response to seismic stress. Specifically, the school is characterized by a large horizontal roof enriched by double volumes with inclined pitches with windows facing north which guarantee a high quality of light and continuous air exchange. Each section has a shaded patio that acts as an outdoor living room, promoting a direct relationship with the external environment. The energy necessary for the entire functioning of the structure is renewable and is entirely produced by the photovoltaic panels integrated into the roof.
The developed project considers the surroundings not so much as an element to which to refer to order the generative and compositional principles but as a pre-existence from which to move away and protect oneself in order to find greater balance and harmony within oneself and an environmental quality not found in the immediate surroundings. The maximum attention towards the environmental quality of the work to be carried out is to be read through two fundamental relationships, energy saving and the benefits deriving from the use of renewable energy and from the spatial articulation capable of influencing internal environmental comfort. The strong points of the project are: 1) the urban insertion which takes into account the particular context and orientation of the site which have significantly influenced the spatial organization of the new building 2) a school which harmoniously integrates teaching and service functions with a coherent and innovative architectural image 3) particular attention to environmental sustainability and the well-being of children, creating a modern, efficient educational environment in harmony with the natural and urban context.
The mayor and the municipal administration of Dolzago appreciated the project with these words: "We consider this work as fundamental for our small municipality: it will guarantee a cutting-edge environment, both from a structural and energy sustainability point of view for our small fellow citizens. The objective that leads us to want to build a new school is to guarantee an efficient, sustainable and modern structure within which to continue the excellent training offer proposed by the current
The design was carried out by a team of designers formed in a temporary grouping of companies (RTI) including various professional figures with the skills required by competition notice (design architects, structural engineers and plant engineers). The team of architects usually work with architectural design of new buildings, urban redevelopment, feasibility studies, master plans, building restoration and renovation to interior studies. Particular attention is paid to the state of the places and the sustainability of the project from an environmental and economic point of view.
