The use of 3D printing technology with white concrete (RAL 9016) and a striped finish characteristic of the printing process aims to shield the building from solar heat during summer months while enhancing surface reflectivity and minimizing heat absorption. The building will meet NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) standards, ensuring high performance with minimal energy consumption and environmental impact. This includes low energy demand for heating, ventilation, hot water, and electricity, achieved through advanced building envelope features and highly efficient thermal and electrical systems such as heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, and LED lighting.
The 3Desideri Kindergarten showcases a flat, lightweight roof supported by volumes designed to emulate scattered rocks found in nature. These volumes seamlessly integrate the nursery's main collective functions with the outdoor environment. Within these volumes, fluid spaces open towards internal courtyards, offering natural light, safe gathering areas, and an expansive visual experience. The contrast between the solid, textured rocks supporting the light, natural roof is accentuated by carefully selected materials that blend harmoniously with both the urban landscape (including the nearby school) and the natural forest surroundings. The perimeter walls will be constructed using 3D printing technology in white concrete (RAL 9016) with a striped finish characteristic of the printing process. This innovative approach allows for the creation of surfaces and shapes free from the constraints of traditional techniques. The building's design incorporates curved walls throughout, enhancing the environment's tranquility and comfort for children by reducing noise and echoes, and minimizing sharp edges that could pose a risk. Externally, the roof will be adorned with an outdoor wood ceiling. The structure is anchored by a reinforced concrete frame, complete with raft foundations and a robust concrete roof slab.
The project aims to unite an innovative educational model with an equally ambitious architectural design. When designing the 3Desideri Kindergarten, we reflected on our own childhoods, recalling the natural inclination that led us to play for hours in the gardens and squares of our town. Play, as a universal expression of human culture, transcends cultural boundaries and serves as a powerful unifying force.
LAP architettura, founded in 2015 by Architects Daniel Caramanico, Federico Sorgi, and Simone Esposito, is actively involved in developing social and cultural projects based on a new model of participatory design that evolves and adapts through community engagement. One notable example is La Scuola dei Desideri in Pacentro, designed in collaboration with MCA - Mario Cucinella Architects. In recent years, the studio has specialized in educational buildings, with 10 school projects currently underway or set to begin in Abruzzo. The studio's works are characterized by a perspective that interweaves the storytelling of traditions with innovative theories on contemporary society and its lifestyles. Their design approach emphasizes the lightness of volumes developed in continual dialogue with the context and built environment. LAP Architecture relies on a cohesive team of young, talented, and passionate designers who continuously renew themselves
