Within the body of İstanbul AKM, with its rich collection focusing on the fields of music, arts, architecture, and design, the library is in the annex wing of the Cultural Center, located together with the secondary function units other than opera. 680 square meter unit, with a total book display area of 1074 linear meter, is arranged as 2 main floors; two mezzanine floors surrounded with bookshelves, and a study floor. Without getting away from the holistic understanding of the project of the cultural complex, use of wood is strongly preferred as it has been almost a symbol of classical libraries. A modern but warm library environment is created by emphasizing the criteria for exhibition of books, acoustic and lighting comfort.

The Cultural Center evolves in two joint fragments. The first is the main opera stage, the second component is articulated along Gezi Park, forming a culture lane, which brings together the social, artistic and cultural performance units and secondary functions that will stimulate the urban flow. The library, a theater hall, a music platform, art galleries, a children's art center, a multi-purpose hall, a cinema, and workshops; with a design shop, a bookstore, cafes and restaurants between these units, are each located at the best convenient floor, location, size and design, depending on their functions and relation to each other.

The center is not visited just to watch opera and ballet but it is open to a very audience; the AKM is designed to serve as an urban and cultural complex, and a public space where people spend time around. In terms of design, use of wood is preferred as it has been almost a symbol of classical libraries. A modern but warm library environment is created by emphasizing the criteria for exhibition of books, acoustic and lighting comfort. In the library, using the interior surface covering materials from environmentally friendly, recyclable, durable and sanitary materials have ensured that the structure is long-lasting and useful, thus creating a space that is sensitive to the environment and people.

On the cultural axis of the Center, all units arranged in a horizontal hierarchy and connected to the main building, reaching directly to the city by a natural orientation. The cultural axis, determined by the borders of the individual spaces, one being the Library, is easily accessible from street level, and connects the two piazzas, one is in front of the main Opera House and other formed at the other end, before Atatürk Library. Beyond proving the connection, the stairs extending alongside the annex, connecting to the square, forms a casual meeting space. The design of the culture street grants intermediate piazzas at several levels which become the observation terrace of a lower piazza. Vitali Hakko Creative Industries Library’s rich collection donated Atatürk Cultural Center and opened to public as the most up-to-date and comprehensive art library in Turkey, with constantly updated printed, digital, and visual archives including 15,000 books with special editions.

The cultural complex establishes a system which the city naturally passes through, and each citizen becomes and feels a part of it. As transitional spaces resulted from the association of the new units that provide direct pedestrian access to the complex via different elevations and directions, also with the direction of the topography and the landscape. The library, where works of art from different cultures will be exhibited, where cultural and social activities will meet with the society, whe
