The redevelopment of the industrial building starts from the need to combine high energy performance targets and green design principles by focusing on a new architectural narrative. A large portico marks the main entrance and frames the long strip of offices, protecting them from the risk of overheating in summer and maximizing free winter solar gains. A central patio, the result of the subtraction of volume then added along the facade, acts as a green lung with a controlled microclimate. A second skin expresses the principles of sustainability, energy saving and use of natural resources through the language of architecture, and expresses the dynamics and natural rhythms by stimulating sensory perceptions.
The building is inserted in a typically productive area apparently devoid of quality. The aim of the project is to create a landmark, visible and recognizable even from afar, especially from the Brennero state road which runs parallel to the long side of the building and from which it is clearly visible (road layout which also coincides with the embankment of the river ). Precisely the persistence of a portion of the agricultural plot to the north-west of the lot has become the reference for linking the (green) building to the territory.
The building is designed as an organism capable of activating an efficient and virtuous metabolic process, with a shell that adapts to climatic conditions, to ensure maximum levels of comfort and well-being in the interior spaces. The choices were guided by the principles of bioclimatic architecture and by the intelligent combination of passive strategies, in order to amplify the benefits of the four natural elements sun, air, vegetation and water, aiming to ensure energy savings both in winter (passive heat gain , storage and thermal insulation), and in summer (control of solar radiation through fixed and natural/dynamic shielding systems, natural ventilation, improvement of the external microclimate, reduction of the heat island).
The aim of the project for the new headquarters of Sistema Ambiente SPA is to create a landmark outside the city of Lucca. The redevelopment of the industrial building starts from the need to combine high energy performance targets and green design principles by focusing on a new architectural narrative.
The portico is characterized by a deep overhang, designed to protect the glass façade of the offices from the risk of overheating in the summer and at the same time maximize the free energy supplies in the winter. The dimensions of the partitions are progressively reduced towards the sides of the facade, thus emphasizing the main entrance; between one partition and another the deciduous vegetation regulates solar radiation in the various seasons and expresses through the language of architecture the principles of sustainability, energy saving and correct use of natural resources that underlie the technological and construction choices : an envelope that expresses the dynamics and natural rhythms by stimulating positive sensory and psychophysical perceptions. The heart of the architectural project is the central patio, which brings natural light into the inner spaces and contributes to the thermoregulation of the building. A pool of water extends along the entire length of the main facade, contributing to the summer microclimate of the porch and the reflection of natural light.
I was impressed by the use of materials and the architectural design, capable of enhancing the greenery and making the most of natural light. Our company congratulates the winners of the competition for the effectiveness with which they interpreted the requests of the announcement.
cm2 Associati is a professional studio specializing in the design and refurbishment of office buildings, production headquarters and buildings for the community; the design approach is characterized by a holistic and pragmatic vision, sensitive to environmental issues and the relationship with the context, with the aim of triggering urban quality through the architectural project.
The professional activity is carried out through the use of BIM software, from the preliminary phase to the construction site, on interventions of different scales, successfully completing highly complex projects and keeping all aspects of the project under control in an integrated and coordinated manner.
In addition to dealing with private commissions, the studio participates in national and international design competitions.
