MODUSLAB ARCHITECTURE&INTERIOR DESIGN

Construction of a residential building in the countryside of Santa Maria di Licodia (province of Catania) made by grafting a steel structure on an old rural house. The landscape context where the structure will rise is characterized by the cultivation of prickly pears, which "wrap" the dry stone walls, creating a green palisade. The old rural house, with a structure in lava stone blocks will be consolidated only inside, as well as in the foundation, leaving the stone visible on the external elevations. Subsequently, the wooden covering in the central area will be removed and a steel volume will be superimposed, infill panels in insulated panels covered with seamed sheet metal, allowing the creation of another level, where the bedrooms will be allocated. The intervention also extends to the internal side where a new body will rise, in steel and with dry infill and overlooking the swimming pool area. The design idea takes its cue from the morphology of the terraced land, giving vent to an overhanging structure overlooking the "plain" below. The foundation will be built with a concrete slab with plates and anchor bolts for the subsequent positioning of the steel structure. The fixtures are provided in aluminum with thermal break with selective low-emissivity glass specchaiture. The internal partitions will be made with an aluminum frame with an interposed layer of insulation, both thermal and acoustic, and covered on both sides with a double layer of plasterboard. Both internal and external flooring in the pool area will be made of stone. The building will be equipped with a rainwater recovery system conveyed from the roof through recessed piping. In addition, 15 kw of photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof in order to guarantee maximum energy savings, avoiding dispersion into the atmosphere. Finally, in line with an idea of bioclimatic architecture, the building will be placed thinking about the orientation of the sun. embed the lighting bodies and cover the floor. The systems will be passed along the walls, avoiding the cutting of the bricks, but only by cutting the surface layer of the internal EPS coating. After the passage of the pipeline, the plasterboard lining will be created.

Curriculum

MODUSLAB is an architecture studio with the ambition to ensure that architecture can be perceived for the harmony of shapes and proportions, for the clean lines and for the sense of balance that derives from it. Architecture seen as simplification and rationality. The studio was born from an idea of Claudio Torrisi who, after a long period of professional training and collaboration with various studios, decides to create a new professional reality with the collaboration of the architect Erica Drago. The studio approaches the definition of architecture in a transversal way, dealing with residential, commercial, tourist accommodation, catering and social architecture, with the recovery of abandoned and disused properties for subsequent reuse.
