STYLUS STUDIO uses the combination of architectural and soft finishes such as floral pattern wallpaper and fabrics, flooring and tile patterns, and outdoor terrace design to create a resort-style with the reminiscence of a country lifestyle. The root in the Lingnan culture is manifested with Chinoiserie antique-style armoire desk, decorative porcelain, and European style feature furniture. Retired owner grew up in Southeast Asia, and emigrated to the UK at his early age. The hallway features an east meets west style with eclectic personal art collection. In the living room, feature bamboo wallpaper paneling creates a leisure and casual atmosphere. As the father and the son love to chat over a glass of wine, the bar in the dining room is equipped with wine storage and cellar completed with a hand-made copper basin, and oil rubbed bronze faucet with purified water system. ‘Blue’ Kohler country style kitchen infused with modern equipments – Siemens microwave plus steam ovens, energy saving fridge, self-cleaning exhaust fan, water purifier, silent garbage disposal, etc. Special attention is paid to the details in order to highlight the unique lifestyle of the owner, for example, the kitchen sink and the smoke exhaust cover panels are hand-made brass panels. Inside the father’s master bedroom, the walls are adorned with hand-drawn landscape wallpaper to create the impression of living in nature. To bring back the memory of living in England, the master bathroom uses imported ‘Lefroy Brooks’ sanitary fixtures, Carrara marble, and British style mosaic floor. Inside the son’s bedroom, the walls are special imported cork wallpaper. The feature wall is a modernist built-in white oak bookshelves with fine details to create a personalized colour palette within the space. The bathroom uses black marble and mosaic to differentiate between the wet and dry areas. The dry place has double vanities with brass sanitary wares that become the focal points in front of the dark background wall. The marble bathtub and rain shower accentuate the feeling of a resort hotel. The father’s quarter is separated from the son’s quarter by two motorised cantonese gold lacquered wooden screens in the living room which provides the flexibility of privacy. Seeing the antique furniture with Chinese and Western influences, situated in a prominent location within the living room, one would be amazed at the long history of Chinese culture and traditions. During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, ties with the Western world had facilitated flourishing commercial activities. China and Japan’s culture set off a wave of trends among European royal families and the upper class. This trend influenced a group of artists and craftsmen at the time. This decorative cabinet is based on Queen Anne style of the eighteenth century, but details of the gold lacquer are unmistakably Chinese inspired. The Chinoiserie style furniture embodies the marriage of Chinese and Western histories, cultures.
