Northeast of downtown Brixen, on the orographic left side of the Eisack River and at the foot of Kranebitter Hill, three residential complexes have been built on the site of the former "Landwirt" inn. The first two were built in the last 2-4 years and are located on the hill. Nidus, the last of the three residential complexes consists of two buildings with three stories above ground in the south building and five stories above ground in the north building; both contain apartment buildings of various sizes. The height of the buildings was deliberately chosen to minimize the view from the northern "tower" and neighboring buildings. The respective roofs of the buildings are covered with a green roof. The site borders Weinbergstrasse on the south and west sides. On the east, an internal pedestrian path connects the three building lots. On the north side is vehicle access, where a garage ramp leads to the basement. Toward the street side, a solid exposed aggregate concrete wall was erected and given a pearly color. The wall's surface treatment and warm color give it a soft and pleasant appearance. Toward the inner courtyards, away from the street, powder-coated aluminum panels were used as dividers between the gardens and walkways, designed in different heights to meet privacy protection requirements. On the ground floor, the open spaces of the apartments next to the terraces were made as lawns, creating a total of 740m² of garden space. The entrance area of both buildings is lined with a generous courtyard, which also provides space for numerous bicycles. The roof of the bicycle parking spaces was also made of exposed aggregate concrete. A "stone carpet" was laid on the walkways in the courtyard area and on the terraces; this was also color-coordinated with the other building elements. An attempt was made to use as few different colors as possible: dark brown for all metal parts; pearl white for walls, floor, and ceilings. The ends of the "movable" balconies are inspired by Weinbergstraße, which with its curves have a slightly different shape on the floors. The apartments, which are individually adapted to the clients, are thus enclosed by the organic form of the balcony like a "nest." At the same time, this design has made the terraces generous in some areas to create a comfortable outdoor space that can be filled with tables and lounge furniture. In other areas, however, the terrace is narrower to ensure better light penetration into the interior spaces. The balcony railing consists of aluminum cladding perforated on two sides. This combination of two panels creates an interplay between transparency and permeability and gives residents a feeling of privacy while only slightly limiting the view outward from the terraces. Just as the terrace railings were made with the curved and perforated panels, this was also replicated in the staircase. The staircase railings have organically shaped cutouts in perforated sheet metal and rounded end sides toward the respective landings. The entrance doors to the individual apartments were also designed in a decorative manner. True to the motto: every person is different-every apartment is different-the apartment entrance doors must also be different from each other. Each door has a different pattern of perforated plate. Another decorative and enhancing element was created in the north inner courtyard: In collaboration with local artist Markus Gasser, a fountain was designed that is naturally fed with water from the Kranebitt slope and whose shape is based on the curved shape of the balconies.

Curriculum

The two architects met during their joint studies in Innsbruck and Florence. They graduated together with honors, obtaining the highest marks for their thesis on the railway area of Bolzano, under the supervision of Prof. Marino Moretti. In 2012 they founded the architecture studio ASAGGIO, acronym of the two names and literal expression of their philosophy, embodied by an aesthetic-architectural concept as contemporary as it is shrewd. A mutual inspiration which, through the many projects carried out together, has evolved into a common path called ASAGGIO. A turning point towards a new perspective on architecture, in which each project places the individual at the center. Love for design and creative passion go hand in hand with the desire to carry out each project to the highest quality standards. But the search for quality does not end with the choice of innovative materials and methods.
