GENERAL AND THECNICAL REPORT
As part of the renovation of this apartment, I had to take into
account not only the needs of the client, but also the vocation of
real estate, due to context and characteristics of the Constructive
building being in bearing masonry.
This building is located in the historic district of Chiaia, where
there are also important Liberty buildings. The apartment is located
on the top floor of the building and is bright with panoramic view of
the sea.
On a net surface of 71 m2, the initial spaces were: living, bedroom
with bath, kitchen and second bathroom/laundry. The customer needed an
extra room for his daughter.
The design effort aimed at finding a satisfactory solution, respecting
the ancient structure, without changing the masonry bearing walls. The
customer's furniture were few and bad positioned, so the interiors
planning had to be highly integrated between the functions and the
furniture design, to achieve as much comfort as possible in a new
bright environment.
Since it was not possible to change the walls, the project had to
foresee two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an area with big wardrobes and
the kitchen in the living room.
As the entrance to the house is on the living room, I designed an
"invisible" kitchen for those who enter the house... yes, invisible!
The challenge was to converge the entry living environment, all the
functions of a living room including the dining area, the kitchen and
the TV sound relax area.
The need led to a smart design project.. a smart living room,
versatile, containing all activities.
So, I realized a “suspended” Kitchen, underneath which there are
interior spaces for glasses and vittles, but also TV and sound space.
The kitchen, despite the space of a dinette-yacht, includes fridge,
freezer, classic oven and microwave, dishwasher, storage, bottles and
comfortable sink with a drain board. The extractor hood is dimmable so
that it is not visible from the lounge.
The kitchen is accessible by few comfortable steps and looks out on
the sofa zone, allowing the zones to dialog in freedom without
interference.
Under the "suspended" kitchen, I designed a pull-out table in
lightweight iron frame, a sort of bat wing structure, coated with
white lacquered wood. The integrated pull-out table, comfortable for 5
people, disappears completely to have a free space to host up to 12
people with an extendible console table.
All folding chairs are placed in ad-hoc containers under the kitchen staircase.
The other environments are comfortable and full of ad-hoc containers I
designed. In addition, the corridor has shoes rack and wardrobes, like
the bedroom with a large wardrobe and a large container bed and a
“de-structured dresser” I designed for this client.
The "landscape" doors are also of an exclusive design, such as the
master bathroom with a hidden laundry space, and the toilet of the
client’s daughter with beautiful tulips on the door engravings,
reminding Liberty and romantic taste of the neighbourhood.
