The 4 stars Nh Porta Nuova Hotel is located inside “Gioiaotto” building, in Via Melchiorre Gioia, into the core of Milan “City”, in front of Porta Garibaldi directional and business center, that has recently been inaugurated. The building is a prestigious architecture, designed by the architects Zanuso and Crescentini in the 70s and lately renovated, that continue to be strong proof of the architectural and design culture of this area of Milan. The ex NH Verdi was searching for a brand new image, in order to keep up with the changes of the city.

In this background, where the fashion and design capital has its more vital heart, the city enters in the public areas of the hotel, on the ground floor, thanks to new innovative elements which add value to the architecture.
So, the spaces have been designed with a really urban taste: bookshelves similar to facades, walls decorated with images of 3d spaces, Milan architectures and geometrical patterns, colorful and elegant furniture which remind of the contemporary Milan districts. At the entrance, a new round cocktail bar with comfortable stools and a wide elegant lobby are ready to receive the clients -smart workers and tourists- with a drink. The restaurant, which houses Tablafina food&wine, is characterized by a polished design, with golden, blue and green shades, and It is illuminated by large glass walls witch look at the city, becoming a meeting place for clients and citizens, who can meet there, by sharing a breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner with some tapas or an Italian traditional dish.

Also the project for over 100 rooms, located through the 8 levels of the building, has the objective of redefine the spaces with a new cosmopolitan look, thanks to new metallic and bright finishing and elegant colors as red, gold and grey. Many rooms have a great view on the skyscrapers, some on the mountains too. The custom-made wallpaper, with the map of Milan and the Alps silhouette, reveals one more time the link between Milan and the Hotel. A beautiful natural light floods in the spaces through the windows.
The existing partition of the areas has gone through some small, functional changes, allowing the realization of many Superior rooms and Suites, with large walk-in wardrobe, living room with sofa bed, adjustable spot lights and comfortable desk for the work station. The smallest rooms are 27 m size.

On the facade, the renewal intervention wants to valorize the characteristics of the building, by increasing the potentiality it can still express. The building had to modify is language through the years, because of the many coexisting different activities it houses. AI Progetti draws for it a rhythmic subdivision of the windows, by using some wood and glass blades. The horizontal concrete string courses have been laid bare in order to characterize the traits of the building even more.
Some new aluminium window fixtures on the west façade have been installed and varnished, without modifying their dimensions, in order to preserve the uniform language of the building, but reducing the number of muntins, so that the light can light up the interior spaces.

--------

Curriculum

AI Progetti is a multidisciplinary company that incorporates in one workflow a wide range of specializations: engineering, architecture, interior design, landscape design, urban planning, restoration, project & contruction management. We work as a single point of reference, capable of following the project development and its realization from the feasibility study to the executive and constructive project. This is possible because of our method, based on identification and sharing of a specific aim, through the collaboration between various disciplines and different requests (the one of the client, community and context).
In a flow of interaction and constant exchange between specific and general, between vertical specialization and design overview, we give life to works that exceed expectations not only in the final output, but also in the respect of deadlines, of the budget and of the aim that we share with the client.
