Report Housing in street Perpetuo Socorro, A Coruña, Spain

The interior reform of a house located on the 3rd floor of a building from the 60s is undertaken. The housing intervention (with dimensions of 7.60 x 19 meters and north-south orientation) arises with the idea of proposing a space fluid where the two ends are connected, a spatial continuity that on the one hand translates the light to the central spaces and on the other allows the global perception of a only one atmosphere.

In this way, the curved wooden support, is designed to open the visual perspective from the lobby to the deepest part of the kitchen, seeking to break with the traditional layout of the corridor and allowing the user to perceive the continuity between the diferent stays.

We design a sustainable and continuous element of maple wood in such a way that it forms a structure capable of absorbing the different uses and, at the same time, globally connecting the whole house, taking advantage of the height in its entirety.

The wooden support accommodates the service spaces such as bathrooms and kitchen, as well as the master bedroom. The other two bedrooms, are projected as stays that can be poke to the central corridor through openings, windows that allow the connection and spatial and visual permeability, and break with the natural conception of the housing space.

The appearance of pre-existing great beams of concrete when we demolished the false ceiling, made us posible of introducing the issue of the time, the change of period, the possibility of establishing a dialogue between the old and the new. Thus, we cleaned and left the beams in its original state, evidencing the chronological imprint, allowing us the articulation of the diferent tempory states. The use of maple wood in exterior and interior carpentry, and wooden pavement in the most intimate areas, allowed to reduce the palette of materials, reinforcing the dialogue between old and new intervention.

Finally, a radiant floor heating system was introduced under a continuous white concrete pavement which helped to the perception of the spatial continuity, at the same time that we transfered the front light to the darker central spaces. The idea of generating a street to which the different rooms are exposed is maintained throughout the plant, allowing the transfer of light between the two extremes.
