Located in one of the most important and scenic districts of the city of Cape Town, the design of this new residential complex clearly represents a symbol for the general renewal of the area, both for its future residents and for the city itself. Like most of the existing surrounding constructions, the new building sits on a very steep plot which takes advantage of an amazing view of the ocean. The project design arises and evolves following landscape peculiar features. Hence, a small and enclosed volume visible from the main road, breaks up into different parts on the opposite side, capable of framing the best panoramic views with stunning volumetric cuts of floors and terraces. Despite their different nature, the two facades interact to each other with the help of a wrapping line running through the building and designing its main
shapes. The outcome is an elaborate compound of volumes and terraces which get thinner and lighter on the sea side to enlarge the perspective view of the bay. The building consist of five luxurious apartments, of about 300 sqm each, characterized by a comprehensive yet functional layout of space made exclusive by the meticulous attention to details in therms of materials, tile work and lightings. The sophisticated indoor spaces, which consist of a huge living space, bedrooms, ensuite, family rooms, open to the outdoor through large sliding windows allowing the natural light to penetrate into the interior and the view to be enjoyed also from the inside of the apartment. Each apartment is designed as a "private portion" within a complex design. The aim was to give each apartment all the peculiar outdoor spaces of single dwelling
. This is why every outdoor area is designed as an extension of inside space and each apartment is provided with a private pool, decking area, timber pergolas and roof gardens. Feature timber screens and planters ensure privacy between the apartments. This project contains and clearly represents the entire philosophy of Forte Architetti, who wants to export the expertise and the quality of Mediterranean design abroad. The challenge becomes tough when the project meets the construction site and the local workers involved, which of course attend their own construction method. That is the time when sharing knowledge and experience during an open debate can really bring the design to a great constructive result.
