Living and cooking in one spacious and bright place, is the main goal of this project.
The kitchen is not only functional, it is an integrated piece of art. Although the space is very minimalistic, the atmosphere is very rich. Light penetrates from several sides, and various perspectives make the living room very exciting. The kitchen thereby will always remain pure and contemporary.
This new part of the house forms a strong contrast with the classic front mansion.
One wall of the living room consists of a long, high and multifunctional cabinet, finished with a unique picture.
In front, a free standing white sculptural volume, with stainless steel sink, and finished with white melamine.
The long cabinet hides a lot of functions. Structural columns and technical installations are integrated. It also contains the cooking area, refrigerator, lots of storage room, oven and microwave, a bar, hifi and cd storage, storage for cleaning materials, toy storage, …
The cooking area is hidden behind 4 doors, flipping and sliding.
All materials are easy to maintain. Storage, cooking zone, preparation zone, serving zone and cleaning zone are logically organised. Every detail has been studied carefully, to be both aesthetic, functional and ergonomic. Several elements are aligned to create a pure ensemble.
The stand alone volume contains the dishwasher, cutlery, herb drawers, waist basket, bottle drawer and a drawer for cookbooks.
One can cook and do the dishes, but one can also sit at it, and have a drink. It can even be a working place.
The place is highly illuminated by roof windows in the void above the dining area. On the left a patio separates the living room from the architects office, allowing light to enter. On the right, a large window offers a wide view over the city-garden.
Working light is kept very simple by putting neon light fixtures above the counter top.
This concept of simple and pure elements are found throughout the whole kitchen design. Therefore is this kitchen so unique. It has a high standard in function and completion, but the cost could remain rather low.
The picture of the oldest daughter on the furniture doors is orientated towards the garden. It’s a dynamic and soft image. It brings happiness inside the house and inside the kitchen.
Thus this kitchen is not only multifunctional, it is also a bit of emotion.
Not very sophisticated, nor futuristic, but a piece of art.
