Kitchen Design in residential spaces
The House in Gandra on the right bank of the river Cávado is placed next to a metal bridge that connects the village Fão to the city Esposende in the North of Portugal.
The family house with a single floor is the last building before the protected area of the river banks. The implementation allows the shelter of the pool area and the kitchen porch from the northern winds, very common in this region.
The access of Ribeira Street to the garage and the main entrance of the house is conducted on the East zone with a black concrete floor, allowing the opening views for the river in the west and south area of the house with the pool and the garden.
The inner organization has as its reference point on the center aisle that is illuminated by the Olive Tree courtyard which relates with all the spaces. In the front of the house we have the main room with the kitchen relating with a backyard barbecue area. To the West we have the bedrooms sharing a bathroom and the suite with a private closet and bathroom. Finally, to the East, the office and the laundry.
About the finishing materials, inside the house the main space is covered with eucalyptus flooring, except for bathrooms and laundry which are coated with white marble from Greece, the kitchen that is covered with white Silestone slabs by Cosentino along the bench, the garage and the engine room that have a black concrete flooring. In the garden we have sown grass and small shrubs and flowers.
In this particular project the primary idea was to create an open space for the living room and the kitchen taking advantage of the maximum sun exposure. By making the two spaces into one, the family experience becomes more complete and diversified. It is also a great opportunity to enjoy the outer space.
That starting point allows a quest for a complete cooking experience, delivering a satisfactory solution to the client. The design is quite minimal and symmetrical making the space pleasant to those who use it. All the attention went to the detail while searching for a neat space. On both sides we have white lacquered wood cupboards allowing to embed the kitchen appliances such as the fridge, the oven or the microwave. We also have a shelf for the coffee machine and the food processor.
The kitchen island emerges as the central element bringing together the cooking practice. Its white appearance relates to the overall design of the kitchen as well as delivers a place for small meals with an interesting view to the garden. The lighting is optimized by a skylight over the kitchen island. It’s even possible to have a meal outside in the deck zone under the porch.
