Design description:
The site is located in an area where there is no development in the immediate vicinity. The slightly contoured site has an existing pond and is proposed to be developed as a housing project with different sizes of small villas & economical apartments.

Located in a rural area of Maharashtra in India, this small 450 sq.m. health centre is being built to promote yoga and meditation as a way of healthy living for the community from surrounding villages in the vicinity.
The design is to be constructed entirely from locally available grey basalt stone & bamboo, the health centre is designed in a manner that facilitates natural ventilation & natural light

In response to the climate with temperatures in excess of 35⁰ C through 8 months of the year the fluid organic spaces open towards the north creating a focal view of an existing pond on the northern side.

The entire roof will be supported by thicker bamboos arched to curvatures based on the design with a close grid of bamboos framing the secondary support system.Over this a layer of bitumen sheets will be laid for water protection since this area has relatively high rainfall. Thatch treated in Chromium Copper Bromate forms the main roof acting as an insulation in response to the hot climate. Within the fluid structure curvilinear walls demarcate zones for meditation, consultation, treatment and other functions. These walls are made up of locally available basalt stones and also serve to provide structural support to the roof.

The curvatures of the volume within are orchestrated to the sun direction creating large north facing openings for the indirect sunlight and minimal south facing openings to reduce the heat gain.

The design creates a sustainable solution with locally available basalt stone & eco-friendly bamboo to offer health services to a rural community in need of such facilities.
