The project comes from the idea of providing a cultural centre to the frontier between Mexico's City and the State of Mexico (EDOMEX), from the municipality of Naucalpan and the Miguel Hidalgo neighborhood to be precise.
The project consists in rehabilitate a land of 3,832 m2 which was a plastic factory before. The factory was conformed by tree elements: The first one, was a building of two levels with a concrete framework structural system, dedicated to offices. The second one, a warehouse used as a furniture store, and the last one, was an industrial factory with a sawtooth ceiling oriented to the north, which hosted all the industrial equipment; all these buildings had different architectonic languages, axes and structural systems.
The main intervention consists in the cleaning process, removing the elements in each case, as well as the creation of a grand articulator as the reception with a triple high which gives continuity to the stairs besides to the elevator as pivoting element. Such as the creation of a very light exposed structure which adds itself to the industrial appearance of the rest of the building to complete the program of stores and services to the site plan. To finish, a very light pavillion on the rooftop which dynamizes the versatile use of it and turns, in an obvious way, the look to the adjacent cemetery, a huge urban garden that we incorporated to the site through the views inside the project.

With a meaningless facade to the city which practically wasn't intervened from the original, new spaces open to the public provided with activities, workshops, parties and exhibitions in different formats, this space will have the enough versatility transform itself, to be transformed over and over again, to disappear under the future planning.

Curriculum
Taller was established in 1991 by Mauricio Rocha; since 2011 the name changed to TALLER |MauricioRocha+GabrielaCarrillo|. TALLER works aiming to develop contemporary architecture, sensitive to the context and the environment, combining an adequate selection of local materials with state-of-the-art technology available. TALLER develops public and private projects, as well as museography, temporal architecture and art interventions. It´s work is deeply committed to the academy, from teaching to workshops for undergraduates and specialization courses. Throughout their career the firm has received major awards such as gold and silver medals in different National & Internationals Architectural Biennials alike the Latin American and Pan American ones. They have been invited as speakers in different cities of Latin America, North America, Europe, and Orient. Their projects have been part of numerous exhibitions and architectural Biennials both national and international.
