The villa, built on an area at the edge of the town of Sondrio (I), is divided in two parts joined by a flat roof and a patio in line with the walkway that leads from the entrance to the garden and the house. The first side is designed as a garage with four parking spaces, utility room and depandance. The second, to be lived in, it is divided into living area with hall, kitchen, pantry, dining room and living room and sleeping area with bedrooms, bathrooms and other rooms (walk-in closets, laundry and ironing). The garage is oriented north-south, flanked by the walking path, while the residential area is developed on an east-west, with the living area with double facing to the south to look at the garden and to the north to open the view to the vineyards. Body part rooms continues south to the garden and partly looks at where the sun rises. A rectangular of water, depth limited, view opens from the living area to the garden. The building structure is set on reinforced concrete on continued foundation with septa and pillars. The floor is made with high density expanded polystyrene slabs (Plastbau) and cast to complete the reinforced concrete. In the thickness of the foundation beams it was made the crawl space of concrete reinforced with plastic formwork. The brick walls are covered with an insulating rock wool and a plank brick plastered with siloxane coating Rofix Protect. Inside, the walls and ceilings are completely covered with plasterboard isolated, internal plasterboard partitions also consist of double pane of which is fiber-reinforced and mineral wool insulation. Doors and windows are aluminum with double chamber Shuco profiles and windows, the floors are kind of floating in national walnut wood Fiemme 3000. The external stone flooring are locally Serpetino stone, while the external ceiling is made of Burma Teak wood Fiemme 3000. The whole lot has an area of 4,146 square meters with an area destined to garden equal to 3,096 square meters, the residential portion has a floor area of 245 square meters, and accessories environments, outbuilding and garage covering an area of 150 square meters. The heating system in the floor is powered by a heat pump and a closed circuit heat exchanger with the use of ground water, and is integrated by a heat recovery dehumidifier and controlled mechanical ventilation. Photovoltaic panels on the roof integrate energy needs with 6 kW of power.

Curriculum

Duilio Damilano was born in Cuneo on 1961, he’s interested in developing architectural and personal aspects of plastic and material objects that is inspired by his father and brother who are both passionate sculptors. In 1990 he opened his own architectural firm continuing his research through architectural projects on national and international scale. DAMILANOSTUDIO ARCHITECTS is a multidisciplinary architecture firm that operates mainly in the field of architecture and design through continuous research carried out with sensitivity to design, contemporary culture, and urban and natural environments. His studio is currently following several projects including administrative offices, residential building and retail space in Italy and abroad. The firm takes part to the 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture in the Italian pavilion and at a series of international exhibitions while some projects was published on international magazines.
