UFO - Leboncoin Group’s HQ: an architectural statement
By -

The key objective of Axel Schoenert Architectes’ project for the Leboncoin Group’s headquarters was to refurbish the building and transform it into a statement of contemporary architecture in the heart of the Bourse - Sentier area.

Built in the 1970s, the concrete office building had become obsolete, while numerous renovations had robbed it of its former character and prestige. The 18-month revamp not only renewed the building’s image, but also rationalized its internal layout, offering users a stimulating and highly flexible workspace.

In the 19th century, Paris’s Sentier neighborhood was famous for its textile trade. With its weave of horizontal and vertical lines, the building’s new facade reflects this history. The new envelope highlights the intrinsic qualities of the building, transforming it into a contemporary workplace that both respects its urban setting and its original design. Its quite monolithic appearance has, however, been softened by large windows that offer glimpses of the internal and green spaces.

The building has six floors, with a large roof terrace. Including its basement parking space, it has a total area of 6,100 sq. ft. (8,000 m²). The refurbished building has around ten percent more floorspace, the extra area created by redesigning the layout of the ground floor and adding a mezzanine level on the top floor. The ground-floor rooms have had their ceiling heights doubled, creating a visual permeability with the surrounding neighborhood – in particular with Rue des Jeuneurs, where the main entrance is located.

The internal courtyard is now a green and peaceful oasis, offering a relaxing place to escape the hustle and bustle of Sentier. The surrounding facades are fully glazed, making it possible to also enjoy the scene from inside the building.
