Pircher’s modular, prefabricated, ecologically designed system Planit was developed in 2007 by Milan-based architects Studio Bestetti Associati. Made of eco-compatible materials employing modern construction technologies, the modular system combines industrial component manufacture with customising capabilities. Coming in three different footprint sizes (2.5x2.5, 2.5x5, 2.5x7.5 m), Planit prefabs are geared for either private or public use. The system can be extended using either standard modular units or customer-specific add-ons. Construction times are particularly short: a Planit building of about 150 sq m can be ready for use in just 90 days. Modular extensions can be added at ground level or to an upper storey even at a later stage. The structural frame comprises a system of prefabricated wooden panels containing wood-fibre insulation and an internal fibrous-plaster coating. An outer board creates a ventilated façade. The use of safe, reliable construction materials guarantees optimum comfort-zone temperatures in both summer and winter. The panels are built with an air space to allow for the passage of wiring and pipes, making plant installation simple and swift.
One of Panit’s strong points is the use of alternative energy resources. This includes a storm water collection and re-use system especially designed for Planit. The heating system can be supplemented by a controlled ventilation system that recycles and filters airflows without energy dispersion. It can be linked to an environment-friendly heat pump and use geothermal energy, natural gas, solar panels or photovoltaic cells. The first Planit home was realized at Pircher’s Rolo headquarters.
The two-storey building has a total surface area of 500 sq m, complete with a 480 sq m terrace and swimming pool. B&B Italia’s refined, sleek furniture graces the living, night and outdoor areas. Elements of the Flat.C shelving system were used to partition the dining area from the living room (shown here in detail). Dark lacquered wood contrasts effectively with the white walls and flooring.
As seats the Frank series, again by Citterio, was chosen together with Tufty-Time by Patricia Urquiola and in combination with coloured footstools. The outside furnishings employed the Swellseating Collection by Richard Schultz, twinning with a Canasta armchair by Patricia Urquiola.
The Pircher-B&B Italia partnership is rooted in a joint focus on research and experimentation to ensure eco-compatible development.
