One prime feature of Italian tiles is their technical quality - a common denominator on which architects and all involved in the trade may count, knowing the product will be hard-wearing and long lasting, enhancing the finished effect of the floor or wall it is used on. The Italian ceramic tiles sector works to keep up these technical standards whether for indoor or outdoor use, and the new collections combine high performance with a minimalist purity of look, often mimicking natural stone or cement finishes. Caesar’s Concept.S is a “take” on sedimentary rock which it presents in five versions and two finishes, indoor and outdoor. The outdoor surface structure is such that stylistically there is no break visible from interior to exterior.
Likewise with the colours and finishes of Cercom’s Timeless Stone, a porcelain stoneware coloured full thickness, the point of inspiration is natural stone. Its high technical properties make it suitable for commercial and residential interiors and exteriors. With their Geotech Floor Gres have captured the texture of Madera stone; working on the colour factor, they have come up with 6 colours and 3 surface finishes making for great versatility of application.
Rondine Group’s proposal, Metropolis, is an elegant yet functional reappraisal of cement; the “worn” surface effect is obtained by a subtly changing metallic sheen. Another “take” on cement comes from TT120’s non-enamelled porcelain stoneware flag, Progetto 4. This is enriched with flecks and chips of tone-on-tone coloured material pressed into the soft biscuit. Architecture by Casalgrande Padana is a fully vitrified, depth-coloured porcelain stoneware collection available in 12 colours plus a black and a white. The surface of the gloss version has a texture reminiscent of trowel-smoothed cement.
Kerlite Black-White by Cotto d’Este suggests a contrast of meaning as much as colour; the black and the white are absolutely pure. Concrete Project by ImolaCeramica goes for great versatility: it comes in 8 colours, 4 formats and 4 finishes for outdoor application to ventilated façade systems, commercial areas and residential buildings. Nextra by Monocibec with its 5 colours and 4 formats, comes in natural or gloss finish and lends itself to residential or commercial contexts. The same goes for Marazzi’s TreverkHome: residential or commercial, its surface has a wood texture, available in 4 colours and 3 formats. Versatility and architectural continuity are fundamental to Wire System, fruit of collaboration between Simone Micheli and Tagina; once again, suitable for indoors and out of doors.
