Matteo Thun & Partners have created DuraStyle, the next step on from the Duraplus bathroom collection. This time, the goal was to design a product range that not only blends harmoniously into any setting, but actually adds to it. The need to be space conscious and to be in tune with the demands and expectations of buyers and designers were of fundamental importance.
The collection comes in two versions, with the Project range focusing on the public and business sectors, and Home for the private sector. The Project line emphasises functionality, hygiene, ease of cleaning, assembly speed, adaptability and reasonable pricing for the contract sector. By contrast, the Home line focuses on offering the ability to customise the bathroom to one’s taste, space and budget.
DuraStyle’s solution to this multiplicity of targets is to offer an elegant and yet discreet range, where harmony is the buzz word and none of the items dominates over the others.
The collection is characterised by the narrow rims of the washbasins and the outer edge that is smoothed toward the interior. All the washbasins - from the hand-rinse basin to the furniture washbasin - start with a rectangular shape and have plenty of flat storage space.
The toilets and bidets come in floor standing, wall mounted and back-to-wall versions. The floor standing and wall mounted toilets have flat seats that can be combined with SoftClose technology or one can opt for the SensoWash® shower-toilet seat.
The furniture units come in opaque white, opaque basalt grey, European oak and dark chestnut, allowing for pleasing combinations of different finishes. The use of negative and positive space lightens the vanity units, shelves and cabinets. The asymmetrical vanity unit with lateral open storage, and the shelves with and without drawers that go under the washbasins offer plenty of space for storing objects that, in combination with the various flat surfaces, open the way for real bathroom customisation.
There are eight types of bath available, for one or two people, with the option to include a Duravit spa bath system. The baths have panels in the same four finishes as the furniture units and are notable for the characteristic upstand on the back edge of the tub that not only helps one keep things in order (as the shampoo literally hides behind it), but can also be used as a support when getting in and out of the bath.
