The different sizes, colours and shapes of ceramic tiles afford designers real creative freedom. Research has also produced aesthetic and technological advancements that have allowed tiles to be used throughout the house, both inside and outside, instead of just in the traditional domains of the bathroom and kitchen. A recent trend has been to opt for large-size tiles as these foreground the colours and materials, producing sizeable, visually striking surfaces.
Garfloor’s Infinity Stone collection is a reinterpretation of the 120x120 cm tile combined with eight small modular sizes. It comes in seven colours and two finishes: naturally structured, which recalls split stone, and semi-polished. Provenza’s Inessence collection is based on recovered materials and comes in three versions that play on wood and stone-concrete combinations: Recupero Composto Pietracemento, Recupero Miscela and Recupero Legno Ossidato (15x120 cm). The range includes a wide selection of mosaics and special pieces. Inspired by slate, Edimax’s Arkesia collection of coloured body glazed porcelain tiles with rectified edges comes in five sizes (including 80x80 cm) and three colours. The 5.6 mm thick tiles in Cerdisa’s Levitas T 5.6 line are manufactured using an innovative process. They come in three large sizes (100x300, 100x100 and 50x150 cm), three finishes and six colours.
Italgraniti’s Maxiwood range of extruded porcelain stoneware is characterised by its high definition digital patterns. These 20x180 cm sized tiles come in four colours and each tile has its own grain. The Urban collection by Piemme Valentino draws inspiration from concrete furnishings and comes in 3 sizes (including 80x80 cm), with five colour options. Digital 3D patterns decorate the collection, with a pebbly version called “ciotoli” and a non-slip one named “grip”. The Geotech line by Floor Gres was designed by taking the typical patterns of Madeira stone and combining them with original colour combinations. It comes in six colours with three surface designs and is now available in 80x80 and 80x180 cm sizes. The non-slip Canneté version has parallel engraved lines running across the entire tile surface. LeonardoCeramica’s Core collection - in two sizes (60x60 and 60x120 cm) and six colours - of full-thickness porcelain stoneware tiles made with variegated granules is visually striking. The Kerlite Exedra line by Cotto d’Este Nuove Superfici offers six types of glazed marble and porcelain tiles created using inkjet and Microban anti-bacterial technology. These tiles come in the standard size of 100x300 cm, with the various other modular sizes. The available finishes are: Naturale, Soft and Lux. Design Industry by Ceramiche Refin (70x150 cm), inspired by the contemporary urban world, comes in two surface finishes: Oxyde, which recalls oxidised materials, and Raw, which is a reinterpretation of concrete and worn-out coatings. Tagina’s Warmstones 12 mm porcelain tiles comes in 82x82cm slabs and offers substantial creative freedom as the new colours make it possible to create geometric arrangements.
