Antinori Winery?

The Antinori winery in Bargino, designed by Archea Associati, lies in the hilly wine country around Chianti, halfway between Florence and Siena. Wineries play an important part in local social and cultural life and one of the express aims of this project was to make the most of this setting, creating a building that was not only part of the physical surrounds, but also hard to differentiate from them. A winding access road leads up the hill to the various levels of the building, which has two parts that are built into the hill, with large horizontal openings that allow light in and frame the landscape. The winery has a living roof - a vineyard, of course - providing a clear signal that this building is part of the local territory.
The different levels of the building draw from the production process, starting with the arrival of the grapes, moving down to the fermentation vats and finally reaching the underground barrel cellar. Visitors follow the opposite route, starting from the parking area and moving up to the winery and the vineyards past the press, the cellar, the restaurant, and the floor with the auditorium, library, tasting room and shop. The administrative and management offices, on the upper floor, overlook internal courtyards that receive light through large circular holes cut into the roof vineyard. The interplay between the building and the landscape is reinforced through the visual continuity provided by the glazing and the use of colour and materials. The terracotta flooring and cladding extends from the inside to the outside, towards the vineyards, and even the access road was built using concrete coloured to recall earthy, clayey tones. A similar rationale was behind the choice to use Corten for the windows and large glazed doors that frame the transparent surfaces. These were created using Secco Sistemi’s EBE85 door system, which provides excellent energy performance and a discreet design that allows practically uninterrupted views. Secco Sistemi also used the same material in the interiors for the doors and furnishings.
