Resembling a carved-out cube, this residence in Forlì conceals airy, bright, elegant spaces.
Villa Polifemo is a newly built family home in Forlì. The architects were Cavejastudio Architetti, with MARE Architetti looking after the interior design.
The building, surrounded by a lush garden, resembles a carved-out cube or even a marble quarry. This approach of carving out spaces has produced intermediate zones between inside and out. A large horizontal cut, for example, creates a portico that shelters the entrance, while the bedrooms are set back behind terraces, giving these areas of the home privacy while maintaining views of outside.
A round opening in the portico softens the volumes, while underscoring the focus of the project, which takes its name of Polifemo (Polyphemus or Cyclops in Greek mythology) from this unexpected architectural feature.
The architects designed the geometries of the home to accommodate generous, welcoming interiors. This compositional strategy has produced an interesting paradox, with a building that appears square and compact from the outside actually housing airy, bright, and elegant spaces.
Villa Polifemo has two aboveground floors. On the lower level is a large living area, with the kitchen, dining room, and living room all flowing into each other with no barriers. The upper level has four bedrooms, including the master bedroom with its en suite bathroom and walk-in closet.
The interiors feature a palette of soft colors, ranging from white to gray and beige, set against the backdrop of light parquet flooring.
