The "EMBASSY" residential project by Tchoban Voss Architekten is composed of six buildings that rest on a 22,774 sqm [245,137 sq. ft.] plot opposite Koellnischer Park. The park is located in Berlin's Mitte district, not far from the Spree River. It has a rich history of being a fortified city during the seventeenth century. During the middle of the eighteenth century, it was dismantled in order to expand the Prussian capital. Today, there are many embassies and consular offices located in the area. The Alexanderplatz and the historic center around Gendarmenmarkt are also nearby. The residential complex manages to fit seamlessly into its urban surroundings.

Creating character

Each of the six street façades of the apartment buildings have their own unique character. A variation of parapet heights was used. Perforated façades consist of natural stone and clinker bricks in disparate, subtle colors alternate and reflect the materiality and tone of Berlin’s architecture. Some of the residential building façades are textured in rough relief and others are smooth in contrast. Wood-aluminum window systems with lavish, floor-to-ceiling glass surfaces allow natural light to fill the spaces. The six-storey structures house 133 flats. There are four commercial units on the ground floor of the building complex; two are located in house A and the other two can be found in house F.

The mixed-use is well-composed, with one to five room flats as large as 160 sqm [1722 sq. ft.]. Most of the residential units take advantage of the beautiful green surroundings with balconies or terraces. Fantastic French windows were used greet the street side for egress. The flat roof above the staggered storey has been planted with gorgeous greenery and the staggered storey has a roof terrace. There is a 76-parking space garage conveniently located underground with an entrance on Rungestrasse and an exit on Koepenicker Strasse. There are also 243 bicycle parking spaces accessible in the basement. The elaborately landscaped inner courtyard is enjoyed by inhabitants on the terraces of their ground floor flats. The unique character of this charming residential complex is a wonderful addition to the city.
