A kitchen to live in

Bulthaup has participated in the project

In this residential project by Martin Thoma, in Alto Adige, the kitchen is seen not only as a space for cooking, but also for chatting and spending time together. The well-appointed kitchen has large windows that create a direct link to the exterior, without detracting from the proximity of the living area. The layout is, indeed, partially open plan without any doors between the kitchen and dining area. This continuity is further emphasized by the use of the same colors and materials, and the same flooring. The furniture and walls are white, but contrasted with the wood of the windows and furnishings, foregrounding the shapes and adding a sense of cozy warmth. The kitchen, fitted with bulthaup b3 system, was designed, created and custom assembled by bulthaup by Market in Bolzano, which brought its considerable experience to the project. The main sink is integrated into the unit supported by a custom-made hanging base that allows the top to extend to form the window sill, with the two jambs and head in wood. Across the room, the twin corner window has the same wooden cladding, but this time the sill has been turned into a window seat, with cushions, overlooking the garden. A cooking island, with a stove top and an additional sink, dominates the center of the kitchen. It also has a Bora cooktop extractor, which is a silent, effective solution that offers design freedom and uncluttered visuals. One side of the island is an eating area, with four stools. This part is made of the same wood as the window cladding and provides a spot for a quick lunch or somewhere to sit while chatting with friends or family. The third part of the kitchen is a central cube that provides some separation from the dining area. It has custom-made columns that house the fridge, an oven, a steam oven, a warming drawer and a dishwasher at a convenient height for loading and unloading. A door on the side of this cube, once again a bulthaup system, provides access to a storage and laundry space, which is also equipped with bulthaup. The entire kitchen is made of white laminate with lasered edges, with the tops also in laminate with lasered edges. Finally, the integrated flat sinks reinforce the formal, crisp look.
