Serramenti Brombal is a family company located in the Treviso province of northern Italy that, for fifty years, has been creating desirable façades, windows and doors. The fruitful collaboration between Brombal and Carney Logan Burke Architects was central to the creation of this country home in a national park in Wyoming, near Snake River. The company’s vast range of top-end artisan products and the option to customize these was fundamental to the success of this venture. The clients were initially unsure about whether to go for a traditional, rustic look, or a more modern, contemporary feel, so the architects reconciled both options, creating a 600 sq. m home in three component wings, with traditional shapes on the outside, but more modern, designer interiors. The central section has the “public” areas, including the lounge, dining room and kitchen. The north wing has the master suite, a guest suite and an office, while the south wing has a spacious garage, a mud room, a laundry and four rooms for the children. Glazed volumes connect the different sections, contrasting with the wooden and natural stone of the main ones - another reconciliation of traditional and contemporary. Large glazed windows and doors are used between the various rooms, in the living area and in the stairwell to provide wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and plenty of natural light throughout the day. This also helps with heating during the cold Wyoming winters. With its regularly spaced wooden roof trusses, classic proportions and stone fireplace at one end, the Great Room has definite hints of an old loggia, crossed by a suspended walkway that links the two wings. Once again, the use of glazed walls opens up the interior to breathtaking views of the Teton Range. This interior-exterior engagement is exalted through the use of five double doors that lead onto the porch overlooking the pond. To ensure the required thermal insulation without losing any of the looks, the Owl Ditch Ranch’s doors and windows had to be made with an incredibly thin, customized profiles that could accommodate triple glazing with a thermal break. Each door and window was a unique piece, made of top-quality materials and marked by essential lines and hand-crafting. The profiles were cold laminated and then coupled using high-performance plastic. Working with the landscape practice Hershberger Design, the architects skillfully merged different architectural styles to truly provide the house the clients wanted: a beautiful, refined country house, with wonderful materials and superb technical performance.
