Of Jesus” Convent and Youth Centre

Zumtobel Group has participated in the project
Designed by Larc Studio, the complex combines the headquarters of the order of the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” with a youth, sports and religious-instruction centre. There are three functional areas: the convent proper, set around the cloister, the church with two adjacent meeting rooms, and the parish activities and sports area. These include a multi-purpose hall, changing rooms, a 7-a-side football pitch and upper-floor classrooms arranged as a series of intersected, superimposed volumes. Throughout, the emphasis is on unadorned purity and simplicity of volume and line combined with innovative technology and plant.
Zumtobel’s lighting systems were the obvious choice to echo the sleek architectural design. Dimmable Slotlight luminaires were chosen for the church ceiling, entrance, corridors and stairs along with the Panos Q downlight. The church is also lit by recessed Paso II luminaires, Vivo M spotlights and 2-Light Mini downlights. Claris fixtures were chosen for the classrooms while the washarooms and service areas are lit by the enclosed Perluce system. Limburg and Bega products were chosen for the bedrooms and outdoor lighting respectively while Ecosign and Comsign systems provide the emergency lighting and signage systems. The whole illumination programme was devised and coordinated by Zumtobel’s Luxmate Professional lighting management system.
