Fontanot, the Italian specialist manufacturer of staircases for interiors and outdoors, continues to push back its horizons by being at the forefront of research and working with architects to ensure that the staircase is a key architectural feature, the epitome of technology and design.
With the opening of My Place Fontanot - interior design by LCArchitetti - in the Portanuova district of Milan, the company has made available a multipurpose one-stop shop where designers, general contractors and entrepreneurs can find assistance and consultancy for their projects, but also where professionals can meet and develop new synergies.
My Place_Fontanot is a natural follow on from the launch of the Company’s “You ask, We create” contract division and part of an overall strategy to reinforce brand recognition as a major player when it comes to complex architectural projects and customer specific products.
Not so much a showroom, more of a place of work, My Place is a reference point for quality design and part of a broader vision that has led Fontanot to reach beyond Italy clinching collaboration agreements like that with Whitebox Studio of New York, its ‘technical intermediary’ and consultant for the American market.
My Place opens in a city that has recently seen Fontanot products installed in the Bosco Verticale by Boeri Studio, the Allianz Tower by Arata Isozaki and the Unicredit Pavilion by Michele de Lucchi. The idea is to offer consultancy and technical assistance to architects, in a place conducive to experimentation and study in order to find the right solution for the job in hand.
My Place has three open space environments, their large glazed façades opening onto the outside. The first area displays a staircase as a sculptural design element, hosting in turn examples of the prototypes developed by designers and architects. The second area facing onto the road is a sort of living area with kitchen for unconventional events or particularly long and demanding working sessions. Behind these spaces and facing the inner court is a meeting area. And oval the table made by Plinio il Giovane to the design of LCArchitetti wraps around a red Techne spiral staircase.
On the walls of all the rooms are pictures of Fontanot’s most significant recent achievements along with samples of materials, clearly underlying that the aim of My Place is to foster creativity and help ideas become reality.
