Essential Roller Blinds for a Building with Pure Lines
Built in 2020 for the Government of Extremadura, this Museum of Contemporary Art occupies an area of 5,000 sq. m on the edges of the medieval center of Cáceres, Spain, and has received numerous international awards and recognition. The project, by Tuñón y Albornoz Arquitectos, involved the creation of an innovative space to host the Helga de Alvear Collection, expanding the space that previously housed the Helga de Alvear Visual Arts Center, known as Casa Grande. The building was carefully designed to harmonize with its surroundings, drawing on the traditional architectural style of the area while reinterpreting it with a contemporary touch. Neutral tones were used along with large vertical openings, incorporating a series of technical solutions from Bandalux. The design features white concrete pillars, oak, angular forms and efficient light management. These elements work together to rejuvenate the existing space while maintaining a physical connection to it through a corridor.
The work included an internal functional reorganization, redistributing the administrative offices, temporary exhibition spaces, library and other educational services, including an auditorium. Bandalux’s Arion roller blind system, with Polyscreen® 351 fabric, was chosen to meet the light requirements of all the environments, especially the exhibition areas. This solution made it possible to achieve the ideal intermingling of light and shadow in the museum’s rooms without esthetically compromising the façade, which remains defined by clean, pure lines.
For this project, the Arion system proved to be the most suitable of Bandalux’s options, both in terms of esthetics and durability, as it is an optimal solution for covering large areas up to 6 m wide, and 7 m high (for indoor installation) or 3.5 m high (for outdoor installation). With Arion, it was possible to create elegant window coverings, equipped with cable guides that allow them to be easily installed without affecting the esthetics of the architecture. The final touch was the use of Polyscreen® 351, a dense weave and neutral color that helps save energy and is highly resistant to adverse weather conditions.
