The MIPIM international real estate fair was held from 11 to 14 March 2013 in Cannes, involving investors, developers, designers and representatives of local entities from across the world. Turkey was the country of honour, with exhibitions and conferences focusing on this land. In addition to the programme of meetings and seminars, the MIPIM Awards were presented to the winning projects in 9 different categories: hotel & tourism resort, industrial & logistics development, office and business development, refurbished buildings, residential development, shopping centre, futura project, futura mega project and Turkish project. The projects were judged on numerous criteria, with all of them showing innovative drive. Baku Flame Towers, best hotel & tourism resort, and Isbjerget, best residential development, both managed to reflect the history and traditions of where they were built. Milaneo, best futura mega project, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant in North Alt Maresme, best industrial & logistics development, featured well for environmental sustainability. The Squaire, best office and business development, integrated functions superbly, while Culture Casbah, best futura project, and Marmara Park, best shopping centre, managed to represent the dynamism of contemporary society. Finally, Bosphorus City, best Turkish project, was acclaimed for how it was inserted into nature. The Special Jury Award went to the King’s Cross Station project in London, after having already taken home the best refurbished building award.
