Precious Tiles High in the Alps
When the owners decided to extend the Maison de Niege Hotel in La Thuile, located on the wonderful, long no. 7 San Bernardo ski run, it led to the creation of the Hotel Re delle Alpi, a place of refined elegance for guests looking for a sporting break or relaxation in the mountains. The design was by Studio D73 and Studio Associato LGL, and it includes 2,200 sq. m of floors and cladding from Ariostea, which is one of Iris Ceramica Group’s brands. In winter, access to the hotel is via snowcat or skiing, and once there guests are greeted with 12 additional rooms, including three executive suites and five junior suites with a private wellness area. A key reason for this extension was to provide options for guests not staying at the hotel, and this is where the high-altitude spa comes in.
The wellness center has its own reception and lounge area, after which there are various saunas, a Turkish bath, a Mediterranean bath, reaction showers and an infinity pool. Located at 2,000 m above sea level, it also comes with enviable views of snow-capped and snow-covered mountains. Five collections from Ariostea were used to embellish various luxuriant areas of the hotel: Ultra Marmi, Ultra Pietre, Legni High Tech, Pietre Naturali and Materie. Clever combinations of these create color and material sensations that produce warm, welcoming environments that really help visitors to relax. Ariostea’s porcelain tiles were also used throughout the hotel as they combine technical performance with a design that fits seamlessly into different environments, from the public spaces and spa areas, where natural wood and marble tones were chosen, to the rooms and private bathrooms. The choices of textures and colors were carefully accentuated through the lighting design, exalting the delightful combination of a historic building and a new hotel and spa.
